Chapter 73: Liar
Sheng Wang flung the dormitory door open with a force that surprised even himself. He was about to demand an explanation when he saw the "idiot" was actually the training camp teacher.
Sheng Wang's face fell. "..."
"Whoa, what's with the look?" The teacher, known for his leniency towards high-achieving students, raised an eyebrow. "Feeling unwell?"
Sheng Wang, caught off guard, tried to mask his discomfort. "Just a stomachache."
"Stomachache, huh? Did you eat something bad or catch a cold?" the teacher asked, concerned.
"No, it's just my physique," Sheng Wang said, attempting to sound convincing.
The logistics teacher chimed in, "Sounds like a cold to me. This school's broken pipes will always cause problems. I nearly got a cold shower myself!"
The grammar teacher added, "I took mine earlier today. If I had to endure a cold shower now, I'd be in trouble."
"Seems like we'll all catch a cold at this rate," the speech teacher joked as they entered the dormitory, greeting Jiang Tian.
He continued, his enthusiasm palpable. "A speech can stir emotions—anger, joy, or sadness. It should leave the audience feeling something profound."
He took a sip of water and asked Jiang Tian, "Feel inspired?"
Jiang Tian, taken aback, didn't know how to respond. The teacher said, "No need to answer. Your expression says it all."
Turning to his colleagues, the teacher said, "I'll resign tomorrow." The room burst into laughter.
The speech teacher then added, "Seriously, the upcoming speech competition is crucial. A slight edge can make a big difference. We want you to excel, not just compete."
He pointed to Sheng Wang. "Use your roommate as practice. Impress him. Make him cry if you can."
The teachers, ever enthusiastic, shared their insights and advice before concluding their visit.
The dormitory fell silent as the teachers left. Sheng Wang yawned, feeling drowsy. He checked his phone, played a game, and messaged Alden on Facebook, trying to keep himself awake.
After brushing his teeth, Sheng Wang sat on the stairs with Jiang Tian's manuscript, reading through it. The soft hum of Jiang Tian's electric toothbrush filled the room.
"At?"
Promise. Makikinig lang ako., paiyakin mo ako!"
Napailing si Jiang Tian, naguguluhan. " ang oa.."
As Sheng Wang sat there, he felt a mix of embarrassment and anticipation. He could feel his face heating up.
"Never mind," Sheng Wang said quickly, feeling awkward. He stood up, climbed to his upper bunk, and buried himself under the covers.
Jiang Tian watched him, a smile tugging at his lips. He turned off the light and settled back into bed, feeling a slight chill from the night breeze.
The next morning, Sheng Wang's alarm clock jolted him awake. He noticed Jiang Tian still asleep, looking pale and disheveled. Concerned, he asked softly, "Are you awake?"
Jiang Tian stirred and replied, "Yeah."
"Are you feeling okay?" Sheng Wang asked, studying Jiang Tian's face.
Jiang Tian, already aware of his discomfort, mumbled, "Just a little cold."
"I must've caught it from the cold water," Jiang Tian admitted.
Sheng Wang realized Jiang Tian had indeed used cold water, despite the teacher's warning. He thought, "Why would he lie about that?"
The teacher's words about emotional impact and how Jiang Tian had silently affected him echoed in Sheng Wang's mind. Jiang Tian's ability to stir emotions, even without speaking, left a lasting impression.
