Chapter 101: Looseness

Sheng Wang was momentarily stunned, the smile that once lingered in his eyes fading as if caught in a fleeting memory. Jiang Tian, without a word, nudged his cheek gently with a cool milk cup, which Sheng Wang took with a small smile. He drank slowly, his eyes flicking toward Jiang Tian, who was busy typing away, responding to his brothers in their group chat.

"Pinagmasdan ni Sheng Wang si Jiang Tian nang ilang sandali, parang pilit binabasa ang mas malalim na kahulugan sa likod ng kanyang kaswal na kilos. Tapos, parang bumalik sa realidad, ibinaba niya ang baso at binalingan ang kausap sa telepono. 'O, kailan ka ba libre?'

Ang boses sa kabilang linya ay kay Clark, may halong biro ang tono niya. 'Darating ako mamayang hapon. Swerteng araw mo, my little bro—mas hindi na ako kasing busy tulad mo ngayon.'

Natawa si Sheng Wang. 'So, mamaya ng gabi tayo. Anong oras ka ba darating? Susunduin kita.'"

As Jiang Tian approached, the phone call had just ended.

"Work again?" Jiang Tian asked casually, his gaze softer than usual as he reached out, brushing a loose strand of hair off Sheng Wang's forehead.

Sheng Wang slung an arm around his shoulder and tossed his phone on the table, laughing. "Yeah, just a meeting with Clark. What about you? I peeked at your phone. Dinner with the professor today?"

In the world of adults, the closer you get to holidays, the less time you have for yourself.

Philippines was blanketed in cold breeze on New Year's Day. The idea of spending the day cozied up at home felt like a distant dream, but Jiang Tian's brothers had other plans—dragging him out for a celebration, both to honor the professor and gossip about Sheng Wang and his "old classmate." Meanwhile, Sheng Wang went to see Clark.

Despite the frigid air, Sheng Wang had chosen a quiet bungalow-style hotpot restaurant, far from the bustling streets. Clark, upon arrival, shed his coat and rolled up his sleeves, surveying the modest setting with a smirk.

"You've got a shopping mall downstairs, but we're dining all the way out here?" he quipped.

"You love Wagyu beef, don't you?" Sheng Wang replied, offering a sly grin.

Clark blinked, caught off guard. He hadn't even remembered mentioning his love for Wagyu beef, but somehow, Sheng Wang had. It was a small thing, but it hit him hard.

Their father-son relationship had always been like this—polite, careful, with an undercurrent of tension neither could completely shake. Sheng Wang had grown into a perfect son—respectful, accomplished, and attentive—but something between them was always... distant.
