Chapter 50: Interference
It was National Day, and Sheng Wang expected the school to be empty. To his surprise, the hallways were buzzing with students who had chosen to stay behind. On the sixth floor alone, several dormitories were occupied, including the one next door, 601, which housed students from a special second-year high school class.
"It's all there," he said, indicating a mountain of papers.
Xander's eyes widened. "36 papers? Are you kidding me?"
Jiang Tian nodded. "Yep, 36."
Xander and Kaimook exchanged glances and then sat down, their earlier dramatics forgotten. Xander shook his head in admiration. "You two are truly beasts. How do you even manage to get through this much homework?"
Sheng Wang chuckled. "We just scream internally. Sometimes we pretend it's not happening."
The boys laughed, and kaimook added, "Well, we'll just hang out with you and soak in some of that study brilliance."
As they settled in, Sheng Wang picked at his breakfast, meticulously removing every carrot and green pea. Jiang Tian pushed over some dumplings, saying, "Stop picking. There's nothing in there."
Sheng Wang, looking puzzled, replied, "Are they secretly growing carrots in the school's kitchen? I swear, they're in everything."
The boys laughed, and kaimook said, "You have quite the eye for detail. I can't believe you're still at it."
Jiang Tian pushed a half-eaten dumpling towards Sheng Wang. "Just eat it. I'll take care of the rest."
As Sheng Wang reluctantly ate the dumpling, the boys watched in amusement. Xander and Kaimook were clearly struggling with their own papers, their progress slow compared to Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian's speed.
Hours passed, and as the clock ticked, the boys became increasingly flustered. Lao Mao groaned, "I can't believe this. We're still stuck on the third question!"
Jiang Tian, already finished with his work, looked at them sympathetically. "Don't worry, you're almost there."
Sheng Wang, who had been pretending not to notice, finally spoke up. " kailangan mo ng backup?"
Kaimook and Xander gratefully accepted. They borrowed some of Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian's completed papers to compare notes. As they worked together, the atmosphere became more relaxed.
After some time, xander and kaimook finally managed to finish their work. They slumped over the table, exhausted. "We're done," Lao Mao said, barely able to move.
Sheng Wang grinned. "You're finished already? We've still got a bunch of papers left."
The two laughed, "We can't keep up with you guys. You're in a league of your own."
The boys bid farewell, leaving Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian alone in the study room. Sheng Wang glanced at Jiang Tian, who was still focused on his English paper.
"Are you still writing?" Sheng Wang asked, trying to make conversation. "Do you want to grab something to eat?"
Jiang Tian looked up, his expression softening. "I'm not too hungry. It's kind of late for breakfast anyway."
Jiang Tian's smile widened, and for a moment, their hands touched lightly as Jiang Tian moved them aside. Sheng Wang's heart skipped a beat, and he couldn't help but smile back.
"I'm done," Sheng Wang said, finally putting down his pen.
Jiang Tian looked up, meeting Sheng Wang's gaze. "Me too. Ready to grab that snack?"
"Absolutely," Sheng Wang replied, his eyes twinkling with excitement.
As they walked out together, the day's stress seemed to melt away. The two of them, side by side, were ready to enjoy their well-deserved break.
