Chapter 34: Corner

Sheng Wang was beaming with joy, but his happiness was making Director temper flare.

"Now all three top spots of your Class A are vacant, except for Jiang Tian, the '' Director asked, almost on the verge of exploding.

Jiang Tian replied casually, "No, all four are empty now."

Director nearly choked on his tea. "What are you talking about?" he demanded, eyes wide.

Jiang Tian shrugged, "It's not fair sir if he fights together and gets fined together. It's not fair if he doesn't have what I have."

Director's face twisted in frustration. "Did I let him not have it?!"

He thought it over and realized Jiang Tian had a point. He grumbled and rubbed his forehead, feeling the weight of his hairline retreating.

Sixteen or seventeen-year-olds, he thought, are always seeking justice in odd ways. He never really understood their logic, but it was a common struggle between old-fashioned wisdom and youthful defiance.

With a frustrated slap on the table, brent stormed out, declaring, "There will be times when you two will cry and regret this! I'll be waiting!"

In the morning, during English class, Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian arrived ten minutes late, but since Yang Jing was also tardy, no one made a fuss. The classmates assumed Yang Jing had instructed them to join late as part of a regular interview.

Only ben seemed to notice. Leaning over, he whispered to Sheng Wang, " anyari bro?"

"Huh?" Sheng Wang mumbled, pulling out his notebook.

Ben glanced around. "You, Brother tian, and kyle were all called out one after another. kyle's seat is still empty. What's going on?"

Sheng Wang quickly scanned the room and winked at him.

Ben was puzzled. "What's with the wink?"

Before Sheng Wang could explain, Yang Jing's sharp voice cut through, "ben , what are you doing with your head down? Stand up!"

Ben scrambled to his feet. "Sorry, Teacher!"

Andy smiled slyly. "Don't apologize. I was just looking for someone to help. You can list the active and passive forms for me. If you can't finish, don't sit down."

Ben gulped. Sheng Wang felt bad for him and decided to help. He flipped through his notes and handed over a summary of the active and passive sentences to Gao Tianyang.

Ben gave his friend a grateful thumbs-up and peered at the notes, only to find Sheng Wang's handwriting nearly illegible.

Andy , catching the exchange, quipped, "Pass the book under my nose. If you can understand Sheng Wang's handwriting, you'll have a chance to sit down."

The class erupted in laughter, and Sheng Wang's face flushed red. He tried to look composed, but the laughter only grew louder.

Andy continued, "I heard your language teacher said practicing calligraphy could earn you extra points. Maybe if you worked on it, you wouldn't have such messy notes."

Another round of laughter followed as Sheng Wang nodded sheepishly.

During the break, Sheng Wang's phone buzzed. He glanced at the message from Jiang Tian: "kyle called to eat."

Sheng Wang typed back, "When?"

"After class at noon."

Sheng Wang replied, "Their BBQ place opens early?"

Jiang Tian responded with a screenshot of a chat showing kyle's invitation to a hot pot restaurant at the Gate of the Affiliated high School.

Sheng Wang was puzzled. "That place has queues all day. Are we going after Lao Wu finishes his practice paper?"

Jiang Tian explained they were going first and that Lin Beiting was joining them too. Sheng Wang remembered tao and brent were familiar.

As the bell rang, andy called Sheng Wang's attention. "Sheng Wang, stop daydreaming and help ben. ''

Sheng Wang hastily stood up, putting his phone away and reciting the active and passive forms from memory. He hoped for some praise from andy but soon realized the class was silent, and andy was glaring at him.

Jiang Tian stood up to assist, causing a stir in the classroom. After a brief silence, Jiang Tian's voice cut through, "I didn't listen either."

The class broke into laughter. Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian ended up standing for the rest of the class, much to everyone's amusement.

At the hot pot restaurant, kyle and Lin were already there. They chose a spot by the window. Sheng Wang observed the bustling street outside as kyle reminisced about the changes in the area.

"The place used to be a drug store, but now it's this popular spot. It's incredible," kyle said, looking around.

Lin poured drinks for everyone. "This spot was vacant when we rented our place. Why didn't you pick it up?"

Kyle laughed, "We were already set on another location. It was a barbecue place we liked, and we went there for gatherings."

Sheng Wang asked about Lin Beiting's high school history. Kyle explained that Lin was from No. 1 Middle School and the two had clashed before.

"That's quite a story," Sheng Wang remarked.

Kyle smirked, "After many fights, we became friends and eventually reconnected years later. We started this place to relive the fun of our youth."

Sheng Wang admired their story. "Do you regret it?"

Kyle grinned, "Not at all. It's important to go wild when you should. There'll be plenty of time to be rational later."

As Sheng Wang savored the hot pot, he felt a sense of camaraderie with Kyle and Lin . The day had been full of surprises, but he knew it was these moments that made everything worthwhile.

Back at school, jr returned to the classroom looking dejected, avoiding eye contact with Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian, who were busy with their tasks.

Liza approached them, reminding them about the accommodation forms. Sheng Wang, caught off guard, politely declined.

When Liza left, Sheng Wang felt a tap on his back. He turned to see Jiang Tian whispering, "When will it reopen?"

Sheng Wang, still reflecting on the day's events, simply smiled.
