After class, Sheng Wang's phone buzzed with a call from his dad.
'' bakit dad? ''
"Hello anak, Sheng Wang, can you bring Jiang Tian home with you?" his dad asked.
Sheng Wang glanced around the empty classroom. "Where's Jiang Tian?" he wondered aloud, but there was no one left to answer.
"wala siya dito ," Sheng Wang replied into the phone.
There was a pause on the other end. " okay. Just come home," his dad sighed, sounding a little disappointed.
As Sheng Wang hung up, he felt a wave of loneliness wash over him. The more he thought about it, the more disconnected he felt—from his dad, from Jiang Tian, and from this whole new family situation that seemed to be forming around him. What was supposed to be a fresh start felt more like a heavy burden, leaving Sheng Wang feeling isolated and lost.
