A Certain Someone Chapter 76: Back to School
Monday dawned, and Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian returned to the city, perfectly missing a month of vacation.
The familiar special car and driver were still there, but the usual Mrs. Sarah was replaced by Sir Vince, the stern Political and Educational Office director.
Sheng Wang initially felt relieved not to see Aunt Lea and Clark immediately. However, the sight of Sir Vince was far from comforting. As soon as Sir Vince arrived, Sheng Wang quickly tucked his phone away.
"I didn't see you being so obedient at school," Sir Vince grumbled. "Can I still see your cell phone outside? Report safety or chat—what's it going to be?"
Sheng Wang tried to divert, "My dad asked if our school car had arrived."
Sir Vince replied, "That's what parents want to know. We only arrive early, not late. Can't have students waiting with no one to pick them up."
Sheng Wang responded with quick nods, then turned to his phone to text his dad.
Clark: The temperature has dropped. Aunt Lea said the dorm quilt might be thin. Can you go back after class to check? Maybe add a mattress and quilt?
Sheng: It's not cold.
Sheng: We've missed classes and might not be free after.
Clark: Just give us the key; Aunt Lea and I will take care of it.
Sheng: It's not just us. We have roommates too. You might scare them off.
As Sheng Wang typed, Jiang Tian leaned in and whispered, "Why the frown?"
"My dad," Sheng Wang said, about to show Jiang Tian, but hesitated. He didn't want Jiang Tian to see his reluctance about having Clark and Aunt Lea come to school.
So, he tucked his phone away and sighed, "My dad's worried about the temperature and wants to make sure we're dressed warmly."
He touched his thing accidently. One thing he knows, he's gifted. Unlike him. An average.
Sheng: Told Aunt Lea the dorm is warm. We might overheat with extra quilts.
Clark replied: Nonsense.
Sheng: If you don't believe me, I'll send a photo. One roommate sleeps in a vest.
Sheng: Don't want to roast us.
Clark: The temperature will drop. Better to be prepared.
Sheng: Recall if there are extra quilts in our dorm.
After a brief pause, Clark replied: OK, we'll bring them next holiday.
Sheng Wang leaned against Jiang Tian and whispered, "Missed Uncle Chen's car. At least he wouldn't ask about jokes."
"How was the competition?" Mrs. Sarah asked. "I heard you were sick."
"Just a cold," Jiang Tian said, "and missed a day."
Mrs. Sarah nodded, "Well, you did great overall. Just a few points behind the top spot."
Sir Vince added with a smile, "Being in the finals is an achievement in itself. Good job."
Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian exchanged a relieved glance. Their journey back to school was filled with laughter, little romantic moments, and the realization that while their holiday was over, they were ready to face the new challenges together.
