Chapter 89: Needle Tip

"Provincial hospital?!" Sheng Wang's voice was tinged with panic. "What happened to Aunt Lea? Why are you at the hospital?"

Clark's voice was hurried and somewhat chaotic. "I'm not sick. I'm fine. Listen, you and Jiang Tian—go say hello to the nurse. I'll explain later."

Despite Clark's attempt to downplay the situation, Sheng Wang could tell it was more serious than he was letting on. "What's the room number?"

"903," Clark said, his voice getting lost in the background noise. "Be careful."

Sheng Wang turned to Jiang Tian, trying to reassure him. "Don't worry. Aunt Lea is fine. I think it's something else."

Jiang Tian's face was troubled. "It was Philip who looked for her."

Sheng Wang's eyes widened. "your dad? The one from the old days?"

Jiang Tian nodded. "Yes, he's involved. I need to see what's happening."

They caught a taxi and rushed to the provincial hospital. The short ride was filled with tension, Jiang Tian's mind racing with thoughts of Philip and the potential mess he had stirred up.

When they arrived at the hospital, they spotted Jiang Tian's father is outside Room 903. His disheveled appearance and stubbled chin reflected his agitation. He bumped into them without noticing and muttered an apology.

"hoy!" Jiang Tian shouted, grabbing Philip by the collar and throwing a punch.

The corridor erupted in chaos as people scrambled to separate them. Sheng Wang tried to hold Jiang Tian back, whispering urgently, "Brother, don't do this here."

Clark and Pat arrived, trying to calm the situation. "Let's go inside," Clark said, pulling Jiang Tian away.

Inside the room, Aunt Lea looked distressed. Her normally immaculate appearance was disheveled, and her eyes were swollen. The sight of the man lying on the bed made Jiang Tian's stomach churn. He recognized him as someone from his past—a person connected to the hurt he had buried deep.

Lea, her voice trembling, asked, "Jiang Tian, kilala mo ba siya anak?"

Jiang Tian's response was a simple nod, his face a mask of conflicted emotions.

"So you know him?" Lea pressed. "You know what he and your father were involved in?"

Jiang Tian hesitated but confirmed, "Yes."

Lea's face crumpled with anguish. "Do you know how many years I spent with Philip? How many times did I ignore the signs? I was blind!"

Philip, looking defensive, said, "I didn't mean to hurt you. I thought I could make things right."

Lea's voice was cold. "You think a few words can fix years of betrayal? You've made a mess of everything!"

Philip's voice grew harsh. "You think everyone's like me? Maybe you should worry about your son, too."

Lea's gaze turned to Jiang Tian. "Is this true? Are you like him?"

Sheng Wang's grip on Jiang Tian's hand tightened. Jiang Tian's heart sank as he tried to process the accusation and the fear in Aunt Lea's voice.

Lea, her anger reaching a boiling point, slapped Philip. The force of the slap and the emotional weight of her actions left her visibly shaken.

Sheng Wang, feeling the tension, was suddenly overwhelmed. His palms were red from gripping Jiang Tian's hand too tightly. The night felt heavy with unspoken words and unaddressed pain.

Later, back at Sheng Wang's home, the atmosphere was heavy with silence. Jiang Tian had fallen asleep on the sofa, his face a portrait of worry. Sheng Wang watched him, feeling a deep ache in his heart. He wanted to comfort Jiang Tian, to celebrate his birthday, but the weight of the night's events made it impossible.

Sheng Wang's thoughts were consumed by the tumultuous events. He gently brushed a strand of hair from Jiang Tian's face and wished silently, "Happy birthday, brother. I wish things were different."

As the clock struck midnight, Sheng Wang couldn't shake the feeling that this was a birthday marred by shadows, where joy was elusive and the past's grip was unyielding.
