Chapter 107: Forget it

Sometimes, life throws together people in a tangled web of fate—whether it's for better or worse.

Before Jiang Tian and his friends were in cebu, Philip had been there too, drawn by Day's desire to reconnect with his roots. Now that Jiang Tian and his group were in Philippines, Philip just happened to be there as well. Unlike Day, who sought to return to his origins, Philip sought the finest hospital and the most dignified surroundings, having always prioritized comfort over sentiment.

Aunt Lea had kept Philip's hospitalization under wraps, only revealing it when the time felt right. She reflected on the chaotic night from years ago that had turned their lives upside down. Their connections had been like the gnarled roots of an ancient tree, with the core issue rooted in the debt between her, Philip, and Day.

As she reminisced, she saw herself as trapped by these tangled relationships. It took years of therapy and introspection to untangle most of the knots, only to realize that the core of her struggles had been her own inner turmoil.

Hearing about Philip's illness felt like a sudden shift from the murky gray of her past to a sharp, undeniable reality. The doctor had suggested she face this old wound directly, so she decided to visit Philip alone, aiming to confront her lingering feelings and find closure.

Before heading upstairs, Aunt Lea had a chance encounter outside the hospital. She saw a man in a navy blue coat, talking on the phone with an air of detached sophistication. Even though her vision was less than perfect, there was something about him that reminded her of Jiang Tian. She dismissed it, and with a shrug, continued inside.

Her last memory of Philip was a night of confrontation when he had looked particularly disheveled. When she saw him in the hospital, her heart sank. The once dashing Philip was now a bloated, pitiful figure. It was hard to reconcile the vibrant man she had known with the frail one before her.

Philip's attempts to hide from her—clutching his face and stumbling towards the bathroom—were a painful reminder of how far he had fallen. Aunt Lea, unable to hold back her complex emotions, followed him into the ward.

Philip lay in bed, his eyes drooping, his once sharp gaze now dim and weak. Aunt Lea stood by his bed, realizing how pointless it was to cling to old resentments. The man she had known was gone, replaced by this unrecognizable shadow.

"Are you really just here to see how pitiful I've become?" Philip's voice was barely a whisper, laced with self-pity.

Aunt Lea, despite her initial intent to mock or chastise him, found herself feeling a peculiar mixture of relief and detachment. "Forget it," she said softly, "It's not worth holding onto anymore."

Philip looked up, his eyes reflecting a rare vulnerability. For years, he had craved validation, and now he faced nothing but indifference. The realization hit him hard. He had sought recognition, but all he received was cold detachment.

Lea, feeling the weight of the past lift, turned to leave. But as she reached the door, she glanced back at Philip one last time. The light from the large glass window at the end of the corridor cast a cold, pale glow, accentuating the stark difference between the past and the present.

As Lea settled on a bench outside, overwhelmed by a complex mix of emotions, she was surprised to see Jiang Tian approach, holding a glass of water.

"tian?" she asked, her voice filled with astonishment. "When did you get here?"

"It's been a while mom," Jiang Tian said, settling beside her. He had come as soon as he heard Lea was in manila . He had lingered downstairs, having seen Sheng Wang and persuading him to wait in the car to avoid the uncomfortable scene.

As Jiang Tian handed her the water, their fingers brushed lightly, sending a jolt through Lea. She looked at him, seeing the grown man he had become. There was a tenderness in his eyes that spoke of his concern and affection.

Suddenly, Jiang Tian's face grew serious. "I'm glad you're here, but I have to tell you something."

Aunt Lea's heart skipped a beat, her curiosity piqued. "What is it?"

Jiang Tian took a deep breath, then leaned closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I overheard something while waiting. It's about Philip... and it's not good."

Before he could continue, a sharp cry from inside the hospital broke the tension. Both Lea and Jiang Tian turned toward the sound, their faces mirroring concern and surprise.

"What's happening?" Lea's voice trembled.

Jiang Tian's expression darkened. "I don't know mom, but we need to find out. It could be related to what I overheard."

As they stood up, the atmosphere crackled with suspense. What was happening inside the hospital? And what crucial secret was Jiang Tian about to reveal?
