Chapter 88: Gifts
After putting everything away, Jiang Tian tossed the empty boxes in the trash and called Sheng Wang.
Gusto mo bang pumunta dito?" tanong ni Sheng Wang.
Jiang Tian agreed, and after a long subway ride to a suburban university town, he arrived at a small building near the dormitories. Sheng Wang's instructions led him to a room on the second floor.
When Jiang Tian knocked, Sheng Wang opened the door, holding a tiny, mewing kitten. His eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Look at this, bro!" Sheng Wang said, beaming. "I got us a new friend."
Jiang Tian's heart skipped a beat. The kitten looked just like his old pet, right down to a distinct patch on its left ear. He crouched down, gently stroking the kitten's fur.
"Is it...?" Jiang Tian's voice was filled with emotion.
"Yes," Sheng Wang confirmed, nodding. "I made sure it's the closest match. I wanted to surprise you."
Jiang Tian's eyes softened. "You went through all this trouble just for this little guy?"
Sheng Wang chuckled and nodded. "I signed the adoption papers. It's officially ours. I wanted to bring you here tomorrow, but they're closing for the New Year. I didn't want to risk losing it."
Jiang Tian looked around the room, filled with cat dens and toys. "How long have you been looking for it?"
"Gusto ko 'to.
Just then, the vice president from the rescue group arrived with the documents. He explained that the kitten was too young to go home immediately and would need to stay with its mother for a few more weeks.
As they wrapped up, Jiang Tian's phone buzzed. It was Kyle, inviting them to dinner.
"Enjoy your evening, you two. We'll celebrate Liza's birthday tomorrow," Kyle texted.
Jiang Tian was about to reply when he noticed his mother hadn't responded to his messages. He looked worried and shared his concern with Sheng Wang.
"What's wrong?" Sheng Wang asked gently.
"My mom hasn't replied to my messages. I'm a bit concerned," Jiang Tian explained.
Sheng Wang's expression softened. "I'm sure everything's fine. Let's check in with her later."
Later that evening, as they tried to reach Aunt Lea, Clark finally answered and said, "We're at the provincial hospital."
Jiang Tian's heart sank. He and Sheng Wang quickly made their way to the hospital, hoping everything would be alright.
Despite the unexpected turn of events, the gesture of getting the kitten reminded Jiang Tian of the special bond he shared with Sheng Wang. The warmth and thoughtfulness of the gift made his birthday unforgettable, even in the midst of uncertainty.
