A Certain Someone Chapter 58: Exile
The chilly morning wind whipped around Sheng Wang as he stood waiting for the school bus, his jacket flapping against the cold gusts. He took a deep breath, letting the crisp air clear his thoughts. The sleepless night he'd endured suddenly seemed less significant in the bright, early light.
Mrs. Sarah, their teacher, was already on patrol, her sharp eyes scanning the students. She noticed Sheng Wang's jacket half-open. "Who decided to dress so lightly in this weather?" she called out, pointing directly at Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian.
Jiang Tian, ever the nonchalant one, shrugged. "I didn't check my messages."
Sarah's eyebrows knitted together. "Why not? I saw you on your phone all the time."
Ben , always ready to jump in, added, "Mrs. Sarah, he probably saw it on facebook . Who reads text messages anyway?"
Sarah gave him a stern look. "Quiet."
As she adjusted Sheng Wang's jacket, Jiang Tian stepped in. He reached over and zipped up Sheng Wang's jacket, the movement surprisingly gentle. "You know," Jiang Tian teased with a grin, "if you're too warm, you might as well wear short sleeves."
Sheng Wang felt his cheeks flush, though he tried to play it cool. "It wasn't me who left it open. The zipper just slipped down," he said with a shy smile.
Jiang Tian's eyes sparkled as he chuckled. "Sure, sure. The zipper decided to slide down all by itself."
The playful banter drew a few amused glances from the other students. Sheng Wang turned away, pulling his jacket tight. Despite himself, he found warmth in Jiang Tian's teasing touch.
The bus ride was long, and Sheng Wang struggled to keep his eyes open. He pulled his collar up, trying to block out the cold wind that seeped through the windows. Jiang Tian, noticing Sheng Wang's discomfort, adjusted his position. A moment later, Sheng Wang felt a warm, comforting pressure against his side. Jiang Tian had moved closer, creating a barrier against the chilly draft.
"Siyempre. Okay ka lang ba?"
"Yeah," Sheng Wang yawned, snuggling into the warmth. "Just need a bit of rest."
When they arrived at school, the usual excitement of mid-term results was tinged with anxiety. He Jin, their teacher, walked in with the results. "Our class did quite well. Especially in physics and math."
Cheers erupted, and Jiang Tian was announced as the top scorer. Sheng Wang clapped enthusiastically, his eyes shining with pride. "Way to go, genius!" he called out, giving Jiang Tian a thumbs-up.
Jiang Tian's face lit up with a smile. "Thanks! You did great too," he said, nudging Sheng Wang playfully.
As the scores were handed out, Sheng Wang found himself among those who didn't make the top 40. The atmosphere in the room shifted, and whispers filled the air. Sheng Wang shrugged off the disappointment. He wasn't bothered; he knew he'd bounce back.
He caught Jiang Tian's eye and gave him a reassuring smile. "It's okay," he said softly. "I'll be fine."
Jiang Tian returned the smile, a hint of worry still in his eyes. "Yeah, you will. And if you need anything, just let me know."
As they left the classroom, Sheng Wang felt a sense of calm wash over him. With Jiang Tian by his side, he knew he could handle anything that came his way.
