Yae-Jin immediately knelt beside Mi-Rae and pulled her into a tight hug. Mi-Rae sobbed uncontrollably into her friend's shoulder, her words barely coherent between gasps for breath.
Mi-Rae: "He'll hurt Jungkook... I can't let him get involved... but I love him so much..."
Her sobs grew louder as the weight of her confession hung heavy in the air.
Yae-Jin: "Shhh, I know, I know," she whispered soothingly, rubbing Mi-Rae's back. "We'll figure something out, but please, don't cry like this."
Mi-Rae: "But I can't! I can't lose Jungkook... I want to be with him," she cried, her voice cracking with desperation.
Yae-Jin: "Shhh, it's okay... it's okay. We'll find a way," she murmured, though her own voice was shaky with concern. "Please, Mi-Rae, don't cry."
Meanwhile, outside the library, Jungkook stormed down the corridor, his mind clouded with anger and hurt. Jimin struggled to keep up with his fast pace.
Jimin: "Kookie, you didn't handle that right," he called after him, trying to catch his breath.
Jungkook stopped abruptly, spinning around to face his friend, frustration evident in his voice.
Jungkook: "How long has she known me, Jimin? 7 months, it's freaking 7 months! And she still doesn't trust me. What am I supposed to think?"
Jimin: "Kookie, listen to me," he said, stepping in front of Jungkook to block his path. "She's probably dealing with something big. Maybe she's trying to protect you from it. Did you think of that?"
Jungkook clenched his fists, his jaw tight.
Jungkook: "So what? She thinks I'm too weak to handle it? That I can't help her?"
Jimin sighed, knowing his friend's temper was getting the best of him.
Jimin: "She's scared, Jungkook. Whatever it is, it's tearing her apart. Just give her time. Don't push her away."
Jungkook shook his head, the hurt clear in his voice.
Jungkook: "I'm not chasing after her anymore, Jimin. Not until she trusts me enough to tell me what's going on."
With that, Jungkook turned and walked away, leaving Jimin standing there, his heart heavy with worry.
Jimin eventually made his way to the library, where Mi-Rae was still sobbing in Yae-Jin's arms. He knelt beside her, his voice soft and understanding.
Jimin: "Mi-Rae, please don't cry. I'll talk to him."
Mi-Rae lifted her tear-streaked face, her eyes filled with regret and guilt.
Mi-Rae: "It's my fault... I hurt him..."
Jimin: "You're scared. I get it. But you have to trust him. He loves you, Mi-Rae. Just like you love him."
A few days passed, and Jungkook kept his promise, giving Mi-Rae the cold shoulder. She missed him, but every time she saw him in the hallways, he turned his head and walked away.
Mi-Rae: "Jungkook, wait!!
But he didn't respond. He just kept walking to his class, leaving her standing there, unsure of what to do.
One afternoon, during a break in class, a new guy approached Mi-Rae with a friendly smile.
New Guy: "Hi, I'm Hyun-Soo. I just transferred here today. Mind if I sit next to you?"
Mi-Rae looked up, trying to manage a polite smile despite her gloomy mood.
Mi-Rae: "Sure, go ahead."
Throughout the day, Hyun-Soo kept trying to engage her in conversation.
Hyun-Soo: "So, how long have you been at this college?"
Mi-Rae: "A while... I guess."
He seemed undeterred by her short replies, and soon, he became a fixture around her.
Hyun-Soo: "You should join me for lunch sometime. I could use a friend in a new place."
In the canteen the next day, he sat across from her without even asking.
Hyun-Soo: "It's good to have someone to eat with, right?"
He smiled brightly, trying to lighten the mood.
Mi-Rae, distracted, barely nodded but couldn't help feeling a little better with his persistent friendliness. Soon, Hyun-Soo was with her in the library too, always sitting close, always making small talk.
Hyun-Soo: "I'm glad I met you, Mi-Rae. You make this place feel less... unfamiliar."
Though Mi-Rae appreciated his company, her heart still ached for Jungkook. No matter how hard she tried to engage, her thoughts always drifted back to him, to what they had left unresolved.
