a few weeks later:

We were currently on our way to las Palmas. The place that Pedro calls home and the place that's means so much to us in our relationship. Our last trip here was so perfect, a trip I would never forget. I couldn't wait to arrive and show Mateo around. And for his grandparents to meet him. But part of me was also thinking of how it would have felt for my parents to see Mateo grow too. Everyday I missed them, and nothing would bring them back to me.

Pedro must have noted my sadness because he placed his hand on mine and gave me a reassuring look. I smiled at him and nodded, letting him know I was okay.

On this trip we were surprising his parents, so upon arriving we would still have some time together. Mateo really wanted to go to the beach, so that's what we planned to do.

We step off the plane with our bags, and Mateo in Pedro's arms. We walk toward the exit and look around for our rental car. Once found, we load our bags and get inside. The airport wasn't as busy as usual, which turned out better for us.

Pedro holds my hand as he drives off. As we head toward the beach he points out different places to Mateo. The small towns, stores, and parks he grew up coming to. Mateo is just like Pedro, he loves to learn about new places, especially if the weather is much warmer. Being that we lived in Manchester, and then Barcelona we didn't get to go to the beach often.

Pedro pulls up to the front of the hotel, where the bellboy helps us with our bags. The valet takes the keys to the car, and we head inside. We took the elevator upstairs and walked straight to our room. As soon as we swung the door open, Mateo ran inside. We set our things down and smiled as we watched his excitement.

"Teo, why don't we check out the view?" I say. He nods and we walk over toward the balcony. I hold his hand just to be safe as we step outside. The fence on the balcony is pretty high up, so I let go so he can explore.

The view is breathtaking. The nice breeze hits you, and you're reminded of the beautiful weather. We look down as the waves crash, and the beach starts to get busy.

"Can we go down now, Mami?" Mateo pleads.
"Why don't we get you a snack and then we can head over?" I reply.
"Fine" he pouts and heads inside.

Pedro walks toward me, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his head on my shoulder.
"I can't wait for the rest of my life to feel like this" he says. I smile and turn around to face him.
"Thanks for planning this trip. Te quiero mucho"
"Yo más, princesa" he leans down to place a kiss on my lips.

We're interrupted by Mateo standing by the door, he smiles up at us.
"Can I have my snack now?" He asks. We both laugh and I nod. We head inside and Mateo takes a seat at the small table. I cut some fruit up for him and serve him in a bowl.

I begin getting myself dressed ready for the beach. I get dressed and then back a small bag for us to take down. Pedro changes quickly and lays by the bed while we wait for Mateo.

____

We walk hand in hand down to the beach. Pedro holds Mateo in his arms to avoid the burning sun from the boardwalk.

We find a small place that's empty by the water. We set up our chairs and watch as Mateo runs around. Pedro pulls out the fútbol he brought and they begin passing it around. I lay back on the beach chair and watch my two boys.

"Mami! Come play with us!" Mateo calls out. Pedro nods and I smile before agreeing.

Growing up with Eric, I know a few tricks. Pedro and I juggle the ball, passing it back and forth. Mateo stands in awe to the side.
