Chapter LXXIV

Johari had been looking with the spyglass towards the sea for a while, when soon a pirate approached her offering her the magical compass.

Jack: (Offering her the compass) This will make it easier for you to know your cousin's location.
Johari: (Turns to see the captain) You really wanna do this?
Jack: It's just for you to know that he is somewhere in the Caribbean.
Johari: But how are you gonna find the Heart of Fire without this?
Jack: I know that that heart is somewhere in Port Royal. And I know very well how to get to that kingdom. While we sail, you can have the compass to be sure that your cousin is somewhere in the Caribbean. When we get to Port Royal you give me back my compass and we'll find the heart.
Johari: (Smiles)
Jack: (Offering her the compass) Do you like the idea?
Johari: (Nodding) Muchas gracias. Thank you very much.

Johari received the compass and when she opened it, she saw how the arrow turned to be pointing to a direction similar to the one that the African pirate was looking at. She then turned to look at the sea again.

Jack: I know you would like to be with your family, but right now I need you in my crew. You know about voodoo enchantments thanks to Tia Dalma and you have the captaincy of the Lotus Flower that Ruby entrusted to you. But if you want, when this is all over, and we achieve to bring my Apple Pie back to life, I can personally take you in the Black Pearl to Captain Jocard's ship.
Johari: (Turns around to stay looking at Jack) Jack, don't worry about that. Ruby was the one who made me understand that I carried piracy deep inside me. And she was the one who convinced me to sail again. She is and will always be my captain. That's why I'm gonna help you find the Heart of Fire to bring her back to life.
Jack: But we both know that the Heart is worthless without Liana.
Johari: And that's why, if we don't manage to return the Heart of Fire to Flame, I will always be faithful to the Black Pearl.
Jack: I thought that what you wanted most in this world was to reunite with your family. See your cousin. 'Cause he is what the compass is pointing at, right?
Johari: Aye. Of course I miss my family and that I would love to see my cousin. But I will never forget that he abandoned me the day we managed to escape the chains of slavery.
Jack: He really did that?
Johari: I'm sure he believed in the bad omen given by the women on board. And if he keeps thinking like that, he clearly won't accept me as a crew member aboard the Ranger.
Jack: Then... you don't wanna go back with your cousin?
Johari: Of course I wanna see him. I would love to find him. But after so many ship adventures and so many pirates and sailors who have passed through the Ranger, it's impossible to be sure that he remembers me.
Jack: That would be... kinda sad.
Johari: You said it. That's why I wanna stay in the Lotus Flower or the Black Pearl. Because the captains of those ships were the ones who accepted me as their family.
Jack: Are you trying to tell me that you want to dedicate your life to the sea?
Johari: To the sea... and piracy.
Jack: Would you risk your life living pirate adventures?
Johari: (Smiling) I would love to have a pirate's life for me as well.

Jack turned his gaze to the compass that was in the hand of the African descendant and saw how it stopped aiming at the sea, to start pointing at the captain with the dreadlocks.

Jack: (Without saying anything about the compass) Johari, what do you want most in this life right now?
Johari: You know very well that I want to see my family.
Jack: Of course I know you wanna see your family.But I'm talking about something more short-term. Something that can be gotten perhaps in a few minutes.
Johari: What do you mean?
Jack: Think about something that it's on board the Black Pearl! Savvy?!
Johari: No, I really do not savvy!
Jack: (Pointing at the compass) Can you...?
Johari: (Understanding Jack) Can I... (Lifts the compass)
