Chapter LXXXVII

《Next to the river, on the other side of the altar of the Bracelet of Hell》
Marty: (Seeing Ruby and Dylan approaching) Captain! You're back!
Ruby: When I say something it's because I'm gonna do so. And I said I was gonna come back not just to this specific place. But also to sail around the Caribbean.
Jack: Apple Pie, can you come here for a sec?
Ruby: (Approaches to Jack)
Jack: (Rests his hands on Ruby's shoulders) I missed you so much, Apple Pie.
Ruby: And I missed you too, Jackie. (Hugs him) You and your deep dark eyes,
Jack: (Hugging Ruby) You've also got very pretty eyes. You've been told that, right?
Ruby: Maybe a couple times. But you always showed it to me even without words.
Jack: You don't know how many things I thought I wouldn't be able to tell you anymore because of your supposed death.
Ruby: You're right. I don't know. But I can imagine. I felt the same that day when the Kraken took you to the Doldrums.
Hades: (Approaches to the couple of pirates) Sorry to interrupt but... (Looking at Ruby) ...Are you ready to go back, Flame?
Ruby: (Nods)
Dylan: (Approaches Hades trying to be respectful) Em... Hades?
Hades: Yes?
Dylan: I am going with you.
Hades: What?
Dylan: I'm going to go up with you until Ruby can get back. And I'm not asking. I'm saying.
Hades: You can't do that.
Dylan: (Looking at Ruby) It's not for you to decide this now, Hades.
Ruby: (To Hades) I asked him. I asked Dylan to go with us.
Dylan: Hades, I'm already bored of this. I don't want there to be any more hatred between the two of us.
Hades: Don't think that there will be a friendship between us.
Dylan: I'm not asking you for friendship either. Just to stop the fighting.
Ruby: (Nods at Hades, agreeing with Dylan)
Hades: (Sighs) Let's go. I'm going to take advantage of the trip to think about it.

Hades turned around and started walking with the intention of the others following him, but Dylan stopped him to give him a proposal that he knew Hades would not deny.

Dylan: I don't want you to think! I wanna help! There are many souls who come confused and sad, denying their death and wanting to see their loved ones again. I want to help these souls make this place a new home for them.
Hades: What do you mean by saying help?
Dylan: (To Ruby) Shadow, please help me.  Hades won't understand me, not because he can't, but because he's not interested in the words and proposals coming from me. Not until you explain to him that I'm not a bad person.
Ruby: (Sighs) Hades, please listen. I know you didn't see the moment I arrived here. Not because you didn't want to. You didn't even know. But because I didn't wanna be seen by anyone. But I got here really destroyed. After closing my eyes in the ocean, and after a blink opening them and finding myself in the Hell of the Caribbean, and even more with these chains indicating that I was chained to this place, it affected me deeply. I knew that if that trident broke I would end up here but still, my mind kept denying everything.
Dylan: I remember seeing that white-haired soul, completely disoriented, and I remembered the moment when I arrived here. I wanted to deny the murder and suicide I had committed, but it was too late. I remembered all the pain I felt that day, and seeing the sadness on Ruby's face, I knew that if I didn't get closer, she would experience the same or worse than me.
Johari: I have a doubt about everything you say. Why white-haired? (To Ruby) Why weren't you with the Bracelet of Hell? How did you lose it?
Ruby: I didn't lose it. It was I who gave up on it. As I said, I didn't want to be seen by anyone, much less by Hades, and I knew that with that bracelet he would recognize me quickly. Also, I was in denial about my death so I became a completely different person. Not only did I give up my power, but the first day I arrived, I grabbed my dagger and used it to cut my hair.
Dylan: (To Ruby) Don't forget what made me give you your nickname, Shadow.
Marty: Shadow? Why Shadow?
Ruby: The only color that accompanied me was black.
Dylan: (To Ruby) If it weren't for me, you might still be sitting on an isolated riverbank, denying your death and your life.
Ruby: (Nods)
Hades: (After almost half a minute of silence) Everything you say is so nice, but I still can't trust Flame's killer!
Jack: Wait, what?! You said Flame's killer?!
Hades: That's what I said. This is the man who ended up with my sister's life!
Ruby: Hades! Please! Stop!
Hades: (To Ruby) I'm not going to stop until you tell me how he convinced you to defend him?! What did he offer you?! How did he threaten you?!
Ruby: He didn't offer me anything.He didn't even threaten me. I'm seeing everything that's happening from Ruby Evans' point of view. I don't want you to forget that I don't have Flame's memories. I, Ruby Evans, met Dylan down here a little less than three years ago. And he's been a very good person to me.
Dylan: Hades, if you want the truth I'll tell you the truth. It was Ruby who made me understand that I am a completely different person from that pirate you saw stab the Goddess Flame. (Remembering Ruby's words) The Goddess Flame is dead. Captain Dylan's dead. But somehow Ruby and Dylan are still alive. If they weren't alive, they couldn't breathe, chat, or smile.
Ruby: (Smiles at Dylan's words)
Hades: (Calmer) How can I really trust in your good intentions... Dylan?
???: (Approaches) I trust in that guy.

Ruby, upon hearing the voice of the man approaching to defend Dylan, immediately knew who he was.

Ruby: Dad!
Francis: Dear daughter. (Hugs her)
Johari: Francis!
Jack: (Seeing the resemblance between Ruby and Francis) I should have accepted at least one of your invitations, Apple Pie.
Francis: (To Jack) Sparrow?
Jack: Captain Jack Sparrow.
Ruby: (Let's out a laugh)
Hades: Mister Francis Evans.
Francis: Hades.
Hades: Why would someone like you defend someone like Dylan?
Francis: 'Cause I've seen the evolution of my daughter since she met Dylan. I saw her sadness and anguish when she arrived, and how little by little her face regained color and joy in Dylan's company.
Dylan: (Smiles)
Ruby: (To Francis) So you knew I was here?
Francis: I didn't recognize you instantly with that short hair and your black clothes. But little by little I felt close to you until you yourself decided to approach me.
Ruby: (Smiling) It was Dylan who convinced me.
Dylan: (Nods smiling)
Hades: (To Francis) So you trust Dylan?
Francis: A hundred percent.
Hades: (To Ruby) Dylan was really a great support to you, wasn't he?
Ruby: You yourself told me not to see him as Captain Dylan the day you revealed his identity to me.
Francis: You go up and return the Heart of Fire to my daughter. Dylan, I'll wait for you at the port so we can talk and get to know each other better. I'll help you help the new souls.
Dylan: (To Francis) Thank you so much for trusting me.
Francis: Thank you so much for giving my daughter hope again.
Ruby: (To Hades) Hades, I please ask you to trust in Dylan. I really don't want any more rivalry between you two. Dylan already paid for what he had to pay.
Hades: (Sighs) Alright.
Ruby: (To Francis) Dad.
Francis: Yes, daughter?
Ruby: Thank you very much.
Francis: Thanks to you.
Ruby: You know? I still miss you in life. I still miss your stories and our trips to the beach.
Francis: You know that with the Keys of Hell you can come whenever you want.
Ruby: I know. I'm going to keep coming.
Francis: Now go and enjoy your life. Your real life.

After Francis' parting words, Ruby hugged her father and he hugged her back.

After a few more parting words between Francis and the other pirates, Evans returned to the port, and the others began to climb the stairs so Ruby could retrieve the Heart of Fire and sail the Caribbean again alive.
