Chapter LXXVII

When the Black Pearl's crew arrived at Port Royal, Jack sent his men to guard the ship while he, his first mate Gibbs, and Johari went down to find the Heart of Fire; the official book of the Goddess Flame, which Jack knew was in the hands of Carina Barbossa; and hopefully find the Goddess Liana alive.

Upon reaching port, Jack bribed the person in charge of the place, as he had done years before, but this time with a ship that was still floating.

The problem arose a little closer to town when a couple of guards managed to spot the pirate mark on Johari's exposed arm.

Guard 1: (Aiming at the pirates with his shotgun) Stop right there! You are arrested by the law!
Jack: We? Arrested because of what? We've just arrived in this beautiful kingdom. We have done nothing for which we can be condemned.
Guard 2: (Aiming at the pirates with his shotgun) Actually, we can condemn you! You three are pirates!
Gibbs: Pirates or not, we have the right to defend ourselves!
Jack: Furthermore, we have friends in this kingdom to whom we have something important to communicate.
Guard 2: The fact that you are pirates takes away your right to defend yourselves!

Suddenly, a blonde woman approached the scene after having recognized two of the pirates.

Woman: Actually, that pirate's right.
Guard 1: (To the woman) Who are you, miss, to defend a pirate? Do you know that whoever defends a pirate also deserves punishment?
Woman: My father was a governor at this kingdom.
Guard 1: And how can we make sure that you are not lying?
Guard 2: (To his co-worker) Actually, you just have to look at her. Look at those eyes, that nose. She looks just like that old Governor Swann. (To the woman) Are you the daughter of the old Governor Weatherby Swann?
Elizabeth: The only one. The name's Elizabeth.
Guard 1: Why would you defend a group of pirates?
Elizabeth: They are old friends... acquaintances.
Guard 2: You know that what you're doing is very dangerous, right?
Elizabeth: Yeah, I know. But I know what I'm doing. I promise that if I see any suspicious action on the part of the pirates, I will take care of handing them over myself.
Guard 1: We hope that this trust is not in vain.
Guard 2: Have a good day, Miss Swann.
Elizabeth: Thank you very much.

After that farewell, the guards, not entirely satisfied, still left Elizabeth alone with the pirates.

Jack: (To Elizabeth) I thought you were a Turner now.
Elizabeth: It's easier to protect some pirates by being known as the daughter of Governor Weatherby Swann. (•••) Can I help you?
Jack: We're looking for someone called Carina Barbossa.
Elizabeth: Barbossa... I can take you with her. But you heard that I promised to hand you over if you do anything suspicious. And you, more than anyone, Jack, should know that I am a woman of my word and I always keep my promises.
Jack: (Correcting) Almost always.
Elizabeth: (Trying not to get angry) You want me to take you or not?
Jack: (With a voice of sarcasm) Let's go there, captain.

《Way to Elizabeth's home》
Gibbs: (To Elizabeth) Thank you very much for freeing us from jail, Miss Turner.
Elizabeth: It's ok. It's the least I can do right now. I couldn't be with you to mourn Ruby's death.
Jack: So you found out.
Elizabeth: My son told me. He saw her turning into ashes. Sooner or later I was going to find out about my sister's death.
Jack: (Correcting) Stepsister.
Elizabeth: (Correcting with a firmer voice) Sister.
Johari: (To Elizabeth) Sorry... May I know what relationship you two have exactly?
Elizabeth: I would like to get to know you first. Are you a new crew member of the Black Pearl?
Johari: Not exactly. My name's Johari. I'm first mate of the Lotus Flower. Although without Ruby I'm the current captain. (Shows her the Lotus Flower Ring)
Elizabeth: We need to see more women on the high seas. Well, with Ruby we were indeed stepsisters, her mom was married to my dad. But when we said goodbye for the last time, we realized that we always loved each other as blood sisters.
Johari: Family is not always your blood. And believe me, I have quite a bit of experience on the subject.
Elizabeth: I can see you have history.
Johari: (Nods)
Gibbs: (To Elizabeth) How's your family been, Miss Turner?
Elizabeth: Very well, thank you for asking, Master Gibbs. We were planning a trip on ship through the Caribbean. (To Jack) I'm very sorry about Ruby's death.
Jack: (Almost angry) I want you not to repeat that again!
Elizabeth: (Confused) Repeat what? That Ruby's dead?
Jack: (Grabbing the hilt of his sword) My Apple Pie's not dead!
Elizabeth: (Showing calm) What do you exactly want from Carina?
Gibbs: Jack thinks she has information about Flame.
Elizabeth: (To Jack) You really think you can bring her back to life?
Johari: If the Heart of Fire keeps beating and pumping blood and fire, it is possible to bring her back.
Elizabeth: (To Johari) How much do you know about gods?
Johari: It was a goddess who rescued me from the sea, and another goddess who convinced me to sail again.
Elizabeth: (Calmer) Luckily for you, we're already here.
