"What about now? Are you scared now Scarlett Buzzby?"

"No. I'm not scared. I'm not scared of you Rock Chase." He dropped the lock of my hair and stared into my big blue eyes.

"Liar."

"I'm not lying." I lifted my hand and cupped his cheek. It was small against his face. "I'll never be scared of you Rock." I felt his body practically weaken at my touch.

I don't know what brought on this question or his strange actions. Was it because of what he did to those rapists? Even though what he did was a crime, in my mind what those men did to Flora was worse.

"You can't be telling the truth." He said but I knew he believed me either way.

"It is the truth." I spoke quietly. He went silent and closed his eyes. I moved my thumb to the corner of his lips. I ran my thumbprint across his bottom lip like he does to himself constantly. I felt him let out a sigh through his nose. I glanced back up at his eyes they were still closed. His lips felt like velvet. They looked like velvet. They're not Black Velvet, they are red velvet. I leaned in and let my eyes flutter closed. I need them against mine.

"No." He growled. My heart stopped hearing his voice. I opened my eyes immediately Rock leaned his head back but did not step away. His eyes were dark hazel.

"No?"

"No." He stared at me as if I should know why the answer is no.

"Why not Rock?" I asked and I hated that it sounded too much like a desperate whine. But I was...I was desperate for his touch, for just...just one kiss.

"Because...I don't want to poison my princess."

Rock and I were interrupted when his mom called out for him announcing dinner was ready.

"Thank you for the offer. I will stay next time." I say to Mrs. Chase as she walked me to the front door. Rock had already went to the dining room.

"You better." She said playfully but I knew she was somewhat serious. I let out a small laugh.

"Goodnight Mrs. Chase." She opened the door for me.

"Goodnight darling." She watched me walk out before shutting the door.

I let out a sigh of relief. Every single Chase is complicated in their own way. Each one needs to be handle differently. Flora and Wenna are similar, bright and cheerful, like mother like daughter. Although those men have severely damaged Flora's light. I sighed and shook my head. Every interchange with Rock seems like it needs to be handled differently each time.

"Good evening." I lifted my head and Brandon Chase looked me up and down with a brief case in hand. He was in a suit still crisp after a long day of work. The tie was not even loosened, not in the slightest.

"Evening Mr. Chase." I nodded at him.

"Are you heading home?" He asked me.

"Yes sir."

"I'll walk you back."

"That's not necessary..." I lifted my hands shaking them in an immediate refusal.
