After I finished showering Rock took his turn leaving me alone in the bedroom the sound of the shower running becoming background noise. I continued to dry my hair with the towel he gave me and once the towel was more wet than my hair I hung it over the back of a chair. I went braless since Rock's shirt was big and thick enough you wouldn't be able to tell if I was wearing one or not. I sat on the edge of the bed for a moment, remembering the last time we slept in the same bed together. It was under different circumstances, and wasn't even on purpose. He wouldn't be showering in the same bathroom if he didn't plan on sleeping in here too. I slipped my phone out, seeing it was almost three A.M. I didn't have any texts from my mom. If she ends up asking, I'll just say I had a sleepover with Flora or something.
I didn't even hear the water stop, but I did hear the door open. His hair glistened in the low light, still damp from the shower. He wore gray sweats, and I noticed he was shirtless; his chest glistened as well.
"I forgot a shirt." He mentioned opening the same drawer he had gotten the shirt for me before.
"You don't need one." I gaze at his back and wet my lips, leaving them parted.
"I could steal the one off your back." My eyes widened just slightly when he responded.
I said that out loud.
"I...No. I need this one." I scooted back onto the bed. Rock walked over, taking my accidental suggestion not to wear a shirt.
"Why's that?" He grinned at me and stopped until he was at the edge of the bed.
"I get cold." My excuse, clearly a lie.
He climbed onto the bed until he was hovering over me. The smell of the soap on him is prominent as I breathe in shakily. My eyes follow him until we are face-to-face.
"Are you cold right now, princess?" He asked his hand, firm wrapping around my waist. He moves his thumb, rubbing it upwards where my bra's side seam would be. Would be. He felt what wasn't there. Does he want an answer to that one? Because right now, I'm hot, but I also have goosebumps. He lets out a rough exhale that could be mistaken for a growl. "Princess..." His fingers dig into my skin. I suck in a breath, surprised at his shift of tone and behavior. He inhales deeply, "are you trying to provoke me?" He looked up at me his eyes dark and narrow. My breath is caught in my throat, but I swallow it down.
"I didn't think you'd notice." I speak honestly.
"You thought I wouldn't touch you?" He asked with a hint of offense in his voice. I was silent because I honestly thought he wasn't going to. When we first came in here thirty minutes ago, he didn't do what I thought he was going to do. Now he says this like I should have known. "Fine." He gets off the bed and stands. I sit up quickly and grab his wrist.
"Wait." I pause as I blink up at him, "that's not what I meant." He pulled away.
"And that's not what I meant either." I blink stiffly at him.
What just happened?
He pulled a shirt on and came back to the bed, where I stayed frozen in confusion.
"I need to talk to Jefe. I'll be back soon." He cups my face and tilts it down, and before I know it, I feel his lips press into my forehead. I close my eyes, savoring the moment...the feeling. I hold my breath then exhale. My stomach does giant back flips. His lips are slightly pursed, soft, and warm against my skin. His hands lightly hold the side of my head, keeping it in place for a moment longer. Until he slowly guides me back up to face him again. "Get some sleep, princess."
Him, his smell, his touch, his warmth, and his breath leave me. But the feeling of his lips on my forehead don't.

The shifting weight on the mattress makes me roll over and groan sleepily.
"Go back to sleep, my princess." His deep whispers cause me to blink myself awake. It was dark, but I could still see his face. He was close to me, and I could feel the warmth of his body heat under the covers close to my body.
"What time is it?" I pulled the blankets closer to my chin.
"Almost five." He propped his head up with his hand, his elbow digging into the pillow. He stared down at me.
"What did you need to talk to José about?" My voice still sounding a little groggy.
"Nothing you need to know about." He leaned against the headboard. He folded his arms over his chest, his biceps almost tripling in size.
"I'm sleeping in what I'm assuming is Black Velvet's headquarters, and you aren't going to tell me what you and Jefe talked about."
"The less you know the better."
"Said every stupid lead right before the one who doesn't know anything gets kidnapped." I pointed to myself. Rock smirked a little at my joke then ran his thumb across his lip.
"Alright you win Princess." I sat up ready to hear whatever it is. "That associate we mentioned earlier...well he is having to cover up what...I did." He said slowly and I nodded.
"Those two men." I say aloud.
"Yeah," he inhaled and exhaled before continuing. "We covered up their deaths, but it was clear that their disappearance has to do with us. The associate doesn't know it was me and he wasn't going cover up our dirty work. Not this time." Rock wetted his lips and I felt him holding something back.
"And? You made him bow so he's going to help now. Right?" I asked a little nervous.
"He can only cover up so much without getting caught for what he is doing. Basically, he is just an idiot who doesn't know how to keep things under wraps and delegates a little too much." My eyes widened just slightly.
"Did someone find out what he's been doing for Black Velvet?" I leaned closer.
"Not exactly. From what we know, he is just getting ansty. Paranoia probably. Rightfully so." Rock chuckled and he remined me of José for a moment. Surprisingly not in a bad way. "Anyway's Jefe and I were discussing about how to make sure he goes through with the...task. One option was to threaten him. However, threatening an associate is a risky move."
"Isn't that what you did when you said you made him bow?"
"Forcing someone to do something and threatening them are different." Rock smirked handsome and devilishly at me.
"Right." I said through my teeth, nodding.
"So we came up with another option which is also risky, it could lead to disaster or an even greater win."
"Which is?" I asked eagerly.
"We tell him who did it."
"He doesn't know who did it?" I shook my head lightly.
"No."
"Well, why not?"
"It might be alarming to find out his son killed two men."
