Hiii...🫣
Felix studies him, the sharp focus returning to Hyunjin's expression, the fog of grief clearing into resolve. It's wasn't anger..
"So you think-" Felix was about to jump on conclusion when Hyunjin interrupted, "I don't think. I know something's wrong.
There was a long pause before Felix glances at the button then Hyunjin. There's no argument, no caution.. just quiet respect. He knows better than to doubt Hyunjin's instincts.
Felix smiled softly and caress Hyunjin's shoulder, "Then we will find out. Together."
"Not yet. I want to see where it leads first." Said Hyunjing while shooking his head, making Felix question, "You don't trust me?"
"I trust you more than anyone. But if I'm wrong, I don't want you getting dragged into another ghost chase." Felix nodded in understanding when deep down he want to be with Hyunjin in this mess. "And what if you are right?" He asked.
Hyunjin's eyes glinting, "Then the man they buried wasn't my father."
Felix exhaled, slow and thoughtful, pursing his lips and stepped closer, brushing a hand through Hyunjin's hair, letting it rest at the nape of his neck.
"I am always with you," said Felix while gently leaving a peck on Hyunjin's neck and smiled. Hyunjin smiled back and look at him, "I am grateful."
They sit in silence, not the awkward one, but calm ans soothing.
"You're not going to sleep again until you get answers, are you?" Hyunjin gave him a small smile and said, "You know me too well."
"I know when to let you chase your ghosts." Hyunjin smiled faintly, leaned forward and pressed a small kiss on Felix's jaw. Lips close to Felix's. The lingered together as they shared a soft kiss.
"Just promise you'll come home after." Felix said worryingly. Hyunjin turned his head slightly and whispered against Felix's lips, "Always. Promise."
Later - same morning:
Hyunjin stands in his private office, surrounded by files and old photographs. He studies a document with trembling fingers... a death certificate with inconsistencies: wrong ink, mismatched signatures, missing official seal.
"You never left us, did you?" He murmured to himself, a tear falling off his eye.
A flicker of something. Grief and pride, crossedhis face. For the first time in weeks, he felt alive again. Not because the pain is gone, but because it finally means something.
Felix entered quietly, setting a fresh cup of coffee on the desk.
"You'll burn yourself out."
"You sound like Minho." Hyunjin smiled faintly.
"He's the responsible one between us." Felix teased.
"Then maybe I should listen to you both more." Hyunjin said while turninghis face towards Felix.
"You won't. I know you too well." Felix giggled and stepped towards the files and hold death certificate in his hands.
"Nope~" Hyunjin said smilingly "but it's nice when you try~" Felix finally saw the Hyunjin he was missing from weeks. The naughty, nonchalant Hyunjin. His Hyunjin.
He leaned in to Hyunjin's chest, listening his heartbeat and murmured, "You find your truth, I will handle everything else. We all have your back."
"You already do." Said Hyunjin softly.
They share a quiet moment.. no grand words, no promises. Just warmth. A couple who've built peace in the middle of war, holding it carefully in their hands.
