Never Again: Chapter 8
Rose's POV
Once again, I was back at the shitty high school. I stepped out of my car, shuddering as I walked across the barren parking lot, it was weird. Normally students would be outside, smoking or hanging out, but not today. It almost seemed ominous, and scary even.
I hadn't seen Niall in two days, I tried to text him but he wouldn't answer. After Iris stormed out of my house Saturday, Niall and his buddies seemed to be on edge. Even Zayn, who normally kept his cool about everything, was acting fidgety. Niall left about fifteen minutes after Iris did, then soon his gang left also.
I wondered what made him that way, but I spent most if my weekend sleeping and scrolling mindlessly though my phone.
As I reached the school doorways, something caught my eye lying in the grass under a tree. It was a gold necklace, it had a rose charm on it, how ironic, I thought to myself. I smiled at it's simple beauty and shoved it into my pocket.
Once I reached my first class, math, I sat in the back. I wasn't early, so I wondered why the many seats were empty. I wasn't too interested, so I doodled on my paper. As time went on, Niall still wasn't in class, and my classmates began taking their seats.
"Did you hear about what happened to Isaac Brown?" My head snapped up at the name of the boy who attacked Iris, and began to ease drop on the two snooty girls conversation.
"No what," the girl with a orange tan asked.
"They found his body lying in a field right outside if town, they think he was mauled by some sort of animal." The orange girl gasped, and my stomach dropped.
What if Niall had something to do with this and that's why he wasn't at school? Or what if he helped Zayn kill him?
My mind was swarming thoughts, making the room spin. I felt like I would throw up. "Uh Mr. Carter may I be excused," I asked as sweetly as possible, Mr. Carter wasn't my biggest fan.
"Sure," he rolled his eyes as I pushed past the two girls, earning death glares. I didn't care, I had to find Niall.
I called Niall's phone, but got a voice mail. I decided to call Iris, maybe she had seen or heard something.
After a few rings, and holding my breath for what seemed like forever, she picked up. "Hey I can't talk right now, class is starting." I could barely hear her through the phone, but I was on the verge of tears.
"That Isaac kid is dead, the one who took you upstairs Friday, he was found dead." I rushed. The line went silent, I worried about her hanging up until I heard some shuffling.
"I just got out of class where are you," she sounded queasy. Maybe she was thinking the same thing.
"Meet me outside, by my car. Hurry please," with that I hung up, and continued to go down the hall. I stumbled again as I stepped outside. I took deep breaths on the way to my car, I didn't want to cry. But that's where I could feel myself going.
I leaned against my car, and within minutes I saw Iris's dirty blonde hair and black vans walking towards me. She was rushing too, maybe she did know something.
"What if Niall hurt Isaac," I blurted out as soon as she was able to hear me. Her sudden realization of the situation was evident, her eyes grew wide and her mouth opened.
"It'll be ok, I don't think he did," she said. I pulled her into my arms, she wrapped me in a hug. I could feel myself begin lose the battle of not crying. "Come on, lets go find him." She smiled warmly and I nodded.
