Never Again: Chapter 40

Rose's POV

Niall laid against the grass, bloody and beaten as Aden carried Iris away. I rushed to Niall's side and assessed the cuts oh his face.

"I was just trying to apologize," Niall mumbled through his cut lips and I laughed lightly.

"Oh babe, I'm so sorry," I said an Harry handed me a wet rag. I began to wipe the dirt and mud from around his eyes and cuts.

"Don't be sorry, she was still mad. I should know that she has a harder time controlling herself. Plus she's not my biggest fan it seems," his lips curved into a half smile and he laughed softly. "She never was too fond of me,"

His cuts seemed to be healing themselves, which was good. They were deep and covered his cheeks and over his mouth. Niall's eyes fluttered closed and he let out a deep sigh.

"Niall keep your eyes open," I whispered and wiped the remaining dirt and blood from his face. "Lets get you upstairs to bed,"

Harry laid Niall against our bed and I went to go get some blankets from the hall closet. Once I was back Niall had put a pair of jogging shorts.

"Glad to see you own clothes, I never see you wear them anymore," I chuckled and laid the wool blankets at the end of the bed.

"Don't act like you don't love seeing me naked," he smirked despite his situation which caused me to laugh.

"Such a cocky boy," I muttered and pulled one of the blankets underneath his chin. "But I love you anyways," I kissed his healing lips and he hummed against my lips. I smiled and pulled away, Niall groan and shifted under the blankets.

"I don't want you to go," he mumbled.

"Get some rest love, I'll be back later," I smiled and walked from our room.

I decided to check on Iris as well. She probably felt awful for hurting Niall, but in all honestly, I wasn't surprised that her wolf wanted to hurt him. He was cold and harsh towards Iris and that caused her wolf to lash out. I knocked softly on Zayn's room, that was most likely where she was.

"Come in," Iris' voice chimed from beyond the closed door. I twisted the knob and walked inside. She was laid in the bed with blankets surrounding her. "Well well well, look who it is," Iris said trying to sound unsurprised.

"Why hello to you too Iris," I said and she giggled. I sat at the end of her bed. "I came in to check on you," I smiled, she frowned.

"You're the only one who checks on me," her voice cracked from sadness and her eyes watered. "The boys don't even care about me," she mumbled and wiped her tears away. It broke my heart seeing Iris cry, she really was my sister. Maybe not from birth or blood but we were sisters somehow, I could feel it.

"Shhhh, yes they do, they care a lot. I know they do, they wouldn't shut up about you the last four months. Speaking of which, how was your time away?" I asked and smiled warmly at her. Anything to take her mind off of what she was feeling.

She thought for a second then began to tell me about living in the woods with Aden. It sounded completely wild and barbaric to eat wild animals but I nodded for her to continue anyway. It was fascinating to hear all the amazing stories she had, and how every night she slept underneath the stars.

In a way, I was jealous. I wanted to I away and be myself and run free, but I can't. I had obligations to Niall, Iris, and our pack. Not to mention the Daemons who are still trying to fucking kill us.

Iris and I talked for hours, about anything really. The conversation never got boring, and I true to steer clear of any discussion of the boys or Niall.

"So how is school?" She asked. But I really wouldn't know.

"I went back two weeks after you left, and I took some extra classes and I'm ready for senior year. It's hard to believe we're only 17," I mumbled and she nodded in agreement.

"Well how are your mom an dad?" She asked and a pang of hurt washed over me. I haven't seen them in two months, but that isn't my fault. I've tried to see them, but they don't talk to me. They don't call or text or even email me to see if I'm alive.

"Well, they don't really know anything. I think they believe I still live at home. I haven't seen them in two months," I mumbled and Iris nodded with weary eyes. "They just don't care about me or my safety. I mean I'll always love them, it's just they don't seem to care. They only called me once, and that was about a month ago,"

"I'm sorry Rose," Iris said and she wrapped her frail arms around me.

"It's ok, you need to rest though," I mumbled and she nodded. I got up to leave her room and she closed her eyes. She must be exhausted, everything is starting to catch up with her. I can see it, she'll crack soon. It's hard to know, but it's true.

I just hope she'll pull through it.
