I didn't leave Spencer Publications until after one in the morning. Although it was a busy Monday, well now Tuesday, the best part was that since I was finished with every thing that Dad instructed, I was awarded a day off. On my way home I stopped by the Chinese store to pick up some mixed vegetables and rice. I haven't eaten all day and I guess that a nice and healthy meal like this would do me well.
I came home with the smell of delectable veggies lingering behind me. I turned on the lights and to my surprise, there sitting by the window sat Steffy. She was staring into space. She looked great, of course, but also kind of scary.
"Steffy?" I asked, feeling awkward, as I closed the door behind me. "Everything okay?" I expected her to be sleeping if anything.
Steffy turned to me and nodded. "Yea. Everything's just peachy."
If Steffy said that everything was fine, I believed her. I mean she was my wife after all.
"That's good to know," I said as I kissed her. She smiled at me and I knew for a fact that she was going to be my wife until death do us part. "Since you're up, I bought in some mixed veggies from the Chinese store. You're welcome to join me if you like."
"Mixed veggies with everything in it?" She asked as if to make sure there were a variety of veggies in there for her to eat.
"Yep," I replied, "with everything in it."
"In that case, why not," Steffy said. For a moment there I was glad that I ordered a variety of veggies, other wise Steffy wouldn't have ate with me.
"Great," I said happily. "Let me just get the plates and-"
"You had a long day at work Wyatt," Steffy said, "I'll get the plates. You sit down."
If Steffy wanted me to sit down then I'll sit down. No arguing with her on that. "Fine," I said, "but let's not make me lounging around while you do all the work a habit."
Steffy got up from her chair. "Don't worry it won't be."
She then went over to the cabinets and pulled out two plates just for us. I took the Chinese food out of the bag and opened it. To my delight, I saw that there were plenty of broccoli's hidden in this meal. Delish! Steffy placed the plates down as she sat across from me as I dished out the rice and veggies.
"So," I began, "was there a reason why my beautiful wife left Dad's office so suddenly without telling me where she was going?"
It wasn't like I was mad at Steffy about leaving or anything like that. I just wanted to know why she did it.
"It's nothing," Steffy told me, but I knew it was something.
"Come on Steffy, don't give me that," I said as I mostly gave myself the broccoli's from the meal. "If something's bothering you I need to know."
"Can we just drop this," Steffy said, trying her hardest not to bite my head off. I looked at Steffy as she placed a delicate hand on top of mine. "Please."
"Fine," I said. "If you don't want to talk about it then we won't."
"Thank you," Steffy said softly.
I scooped out the Chinese rice for both Steffy and I, tossing the remaining vegetables that I didn't want back into the bag.
"Well let's not just sit here and admire the food's beauty, bon appetite." Steffy laughed and I was glad that she thought that I was funny. She was one of the few people that did. "You know, we need to have more dinner's like this."
"I'd like that," Steffy replied as she bit into a water chestnut. "So what do you think Liam's girlfriend would be like?"
"That depends if he really does have one," I answered. I wanted to know what poor girl was dating Liam. Dating him is setting yourself up for heart break. I'm glad Steffy's over him.
"Why would he lie about that?" Steffy asked.
"Because he's Liam that's why," I replied.
Steffy cocked her head to the side. "And what exactly is that suppose to mean?"
"It means Steffy that he probably has something up his beard," I said. "I don't know what that may be but whatever it is, he should leave us out of it." I bit into a piece of mushroom. "Let's not spend our time talking about Liam." Because I didn't want to lose my appetite. "All I know is that I am glad you love me Steffy. You mean the world to me."
Steffy was quiet as she slowly chewed her food.
"You love me don't you Steff?" I asked. I knew she did but I just wanted to be sure.
"Of course," Steffy replied and that made me feel good inside. I smiled and she smiled back.
"Come here," I said as I gestured for Steffy to lean close. She did as we kissed. I was lucky to be married to Steffy.
As we ate, my phone gave three beeps. That must be a text. Who was texting me at this hour? I took my phone out of my pocket and looked to see who was trying to ruin Steffy and my dinner date. I clicked open the text and saw that it was a message from Liam. It figures he would text. I read his message and noticed that Steffy was looking at me. She must have been expecting me to tell her who was texting. Aw, was my Steffy jealous? She shouldn't be.
"It's from Liam," I told her.
"What does he want?" Steffy wondered.
"Basically to just tell us that he's arranging a dinner for you, Dad and I at his place." I explained.
"His place?" Steffy asked.
"Yep. That way he will invite his girlfriend over and we'll all meet her."
"Oh..."
I chewed my broccoli in thought. If Liam does have a girlfriend, I wonder what she's like.
