     Katie's P.O.V
I went back to the kitchen, Brennen going off to hangout with David. I didn't want to ask if I could come because I didn't want to make him feel awkward by saying no, so I hugged my beer and cell phone in the corner and hoped to God no one came up to me. I felt eyes boring into my soul as I scrolled through twitter and looked up quickly, seeing Zane, Kam, and Hath in a group. The boys looked at me until I caught their eyes, quickly looking away from me.
I sighed, turning around ad looking out the large kitchen window. I admired the way the patio furniture was set up along the rim of the inground pool. The night sky lit up the pool which was adorned with color-changing lights. "It's so pretty put there, isn't it?"
I looked to my right, seeing a girl with deep, black hair looking down at me. She wore a red and black plaid shirt with medium-washed skinny jeans and similar black boots to mine. I had sworn I knew her from somewhere, but I couldn't place where. "Yeah. They did a great job with fixing it up."
"I had one of those pools in the hotel I stayed at down in Hawaii last summer. It was amazing, I was obsessed." The girl giggled and I instantly knew who she was at the mention of her name.
"Hey, by the way. My name is Amber."
"Katie." I shook her outstretched hand hesitantly, not knowing if she was ware of who I was.
"So... I'm guessing you're not a fan of parties either?" Amber raised an eyebrow and I stared at her, unable to say anything without wondering if this was a trap or not. "I mean... Because you aren't' in a big group either. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend-"
"No, you're right! I'm not really into this." I laughed nervously. "I'm only here because of my boyfriend."
"Same here!" She pushed my shoulder jokingly. "Who's your man?"
"Brennen." I smiled, tilting my head behind her to Brennen who was laughing in the family room with Big Nik and David.
"I'm with Heath." Amber grinned proudly, pointing at Heath. Heath caught her attention, waving lightly to her. Amber began to flag him over and upon realizing I was standing next to her, I could see the sudden fear in his eyes. Amber seemed to not realize when she put her hand on his cheek and he was taken out of his trance, bending down to kiss her quickly. I felt my heart skip and than realized I was in the wrong for feeling anything other than happy for him. She intertwined their hands when he stood next to her and he began to smile down at their hands. I suddenly felt diy, knowing that look as it was the same look her would give to me."This is Heath! Heath, this is Katie."
"Nice to meet you." Heath continued to avoid eye contact with me, earning a nudge in his shoulder from Amber. He looked up to meet my eyes, outstretching his hand towards me.
"Same here." Our hands connected, the temperature in my body dropping with the sudden realization that Amber had no idea who I was. The entire three years we were together, it was all... It didn't mean anything to him anymore. Granted, I understood why, but... I guess I always mildly had hope that one day he and I would be able to... I don't know what I thought. "Excuse me."
     Heath's P.O.V
I felt my heart bang against my chest, watching he walk quickly away to hide her shame. I was quickly taken out of my guilt to Amber wrapping her arms around my waist. I wrapped my right arm around her, leaving my left arm with my beer in hand at my side. "She seems sweet, but... Odd."
"She's different, yeah." I agreed, nervously laughing as I sipped on my beer.
"I'm gonna go ask Liza about her." Amber shrugged. "I feel bad she's secluded."
"Don't!" I said quickly as Amber went to walk away, startling her. "I mean... If she wants to be a fly on the wall, let her. Come one, let's go talk to Zane."
