"I want to say thank you to all of you for coming here and celebrating, even though not everyone likes swimming in the ocean..." Zane raised his glass of Pinot Grigio, smirking at Erin, Carly, and Corinna who all refused to take a dip into the beach's ocean all vacation. "And not everyone can contain themselves in public..."
"It was one time!" Todd shouted, referring to the bar fight a few nights ago that he got in from sneaking away from the group.
"This time." Scott snorted under his breath, earning a slap in the chest from Todd as he laughed.
"But most of all, thank you for making this the best birthday I've ever had in my entire life. And thank you, Katie... I'm so proud of you for landing that book deal. I know we all can't wait to get paid to promote it either!" Zane giggled, only half joking, as everyone nodded in unison. "But thank you for giving us the trip of a lifetime. You're awesome and I love you more than you know. To our last night!"
"To our last night!" We all clanked glasses together and sipped on our wine. As I brought the glass to my mouth, my eyes locked with Zane. And I felt Heath's grip on my thigh over my ankle length, satin, royal blue dress tighten. He sipped on his wine before kissing the side of my jaw line, followed by the side of my neck lovingly. I snapped away from Zane's gaze to put my hand on Heath's chin to bring his lips to mine, kissing him as I smiled.
I pulled back, seeing Zane jolt his head towards his fillet of fish in front of him, as if not wanting to watch me prove my point. Although, I'm not sure why I even felt as though I was proving a point. And then I looked across the table to see Gabbie giving me a look that told me we would be having a private conversation after dinner.

Gabbie pulled her silk, baby pink robe closer towards her body as we were on the balcony in her bedroom. I was having a cigarette as she held a glass of wine tightly in her right hand. We had taken off our makeup and I matched her robe, though mine was a ruby red that we paired with matching lingerie underneath. "You're looking pretty sexy. What's the occasion?"
"I want to be dramatic." Gabbie narrowed her eyes at me, avoiding a response. "Now, speaking of dramatics, do you like to cause nuclear blasts wherever you go or is it just a habit by now?"
"Excuse me?" I raised an eyebrow, taking a drag of my cigarette.
"Are you fucking around with Zane again?" Gabbie lowered her voice, speaking sternly.
I nearly choked to death on my exhale as I spoke through the coughing fit. "What? Are you on crack?"
"'I love you more than you know'?" Gabbie mocked Zane's speech from dinner. "What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"
"Gabbie, I don't know!" I rolled my eyes. "It's Zane! He probably meant, like... I don't know. Nothing like that!"
Gabbie frowned. "Katie, you and him looked at each other like... I saw the look at dinner, dude." My heart sunk beneath my rib rage, wallowing in my stomach acid as she continued to speak. "I know that look better than you think I do. And I hate that I know it, but... What the hell is wrong with you?"
"This shit with Amber has my head fucked up, dude. I swear. Her and I were good and now... I don't know why she flipped like a light switch." I shrugged, finishing up my cigarette. "Has she said shit to you or anyone?"
"Only that she is getting fed up with William's bullshit." Gabbie cackled at herself, taking a drink of her wine before continuing to explain herself. "Apparently, she knows he got her a ring, but he's made no move at proposing."
"How does she know-"
"The dumb bitch found a bag from Tiffany's and seems convinced it's a ring." Gabbie rolled her eyes dramatically.
"But they sells other-"
"I know, baby. I know." She cut me off again, shaking her head aimlessly. There was a moment of silence between us before she asked in a quiet tone. "Do you think you and Heath will try again? To get married, I mean?"
"I think so." I looked down at the ground, crossing my arms over my chest, before looking up at Gabbie who was staring down at me with a small smile as I explained myself. "I think we will when life calms down. We still have some things to talk about, but I'm spending the rest of my life with him."
"Good. Your kids will be annoying as fuck, but good." Gabbie joked. "I hope you guys do, and soon... I don't think you guys should waste any more time."
"Do you know something I don't?" I half joked.
Gabbie shook her head, laughing fately. "I just have an inkling. Call it a psychic moment, if you will."
"Keep your premonitions to yourself until you have facts. I don't need to be getting my hopes up." I laughed, rolling my eyes. "Let's go in. I'm freezing out here."
"Put on clothes!" Gabbie followed behind me, slapping my ass jokingly as we walked through the doors.
