I sat beside Katie's hospital bed, waiting for her to wake up. Although it became evident she, luckily, didn't need surgery, they put her under just in case to check the swelling in her brain. She had a severe concussion along with having to get countless stitches in a one-hundred and eighth degree angle around her lower torso- But she was alive. And that's all that truly mattered.
I was also looked at when the nurse heard my cough. It turns out I have bronchitis. I was given another inhaler as well as antibiotics and a large gallon of water that I was slurping down while on Twitter. I was also in a group chat with everyone- The entire group had gone home apart from Gabbie, Kam, Zane, and Elton who would rotate coming in and out of her room.
Currently, it was Gabbie'a turn. She was smiling on the opposite end of Katie, holding her hand gently inside of hers. "You know... I think she is only going to want to see you when she wakes up."
"That's not true. She's going to want to see you, too." I laughed, shaking my head.
"Nah, she wants you." I peered over my phone at Gabbie, raising an eyebrow. "You want her too, right?"
"I want Amber and Katie to wake up so we can all sleep soundly for a change." I went back down to my phone, slightly annoyed with Gabbie.
"You really... Fine, I'm sorry I mentioned anything." Gabbie stood up, sighing. "Well, I'll send in the next victim so I don't have to sit here in awkward silence with you."
I went to apologize, but she had already made her way swiftly out of the room. I sighed, coughing slightly, and attempting to not use my inhaler. I looked over at Katie, frowning. "You know... I wish you could see how fucked your hair is. You would have a heart attack." I laughed, feeling as though she could hear me. "I... I'm sorry. I don't know if you can hear me, but I'm sorry. I really... You... If she wasn't around, I wonder where we would be."
I stretched back, fixing the hair underneath my black snapback, before going back to speaking. "I love her... Amber really keeps me in check, ya know? I mean you did too... But I think... People keep saying how I didn't really know you. I'm starting to think that was right." I felt tears sting the back of my eyes and I quickly wiped them away, leaning my elbows on my knees and looking at the ground for a moment.
"I was told you beat the hell out of Isabella... Her mom, ugh, her mom... She didn't make it. Her mom isn't getting charged with anything, she's just going to be put away... She's gonna get the help she always needed. I think you would be happy about that..." I scratched my forehead, clearing my throat. "I wish I could talk to you at night again without it being weird. I think that's what I miss the most. Amber is usually really tired... It's not her fault. At all, she works like a dog, but... She deserves better than me."
Elton and Zane walked into the room. Zane smiled, shrugging. "We couldn't decided who should go and Gabbie told us she was going home, so... Surprise!"
"Time to party." I looked over to see Katie attempting to adjust her body to sit up higher. She fumbled her hands on the bed until she found the remote, moving the bed up as far as her stitches would comfortably allow. "Where's the keg?"
"On it's way." Elton smiled, laughing as he shook his head in amusement. "You gonna beat Zane's record?"
"I'll catch up someday." Katie grinned, eyeing Zane. Zane's eyes began to water and he walked quickly over to her, dropping down and hugging her.
She hugged onto him tightly, kissing the side of his head. After a moment he pulled away, Elton doing the same thing. I noted he put one hand on her upper thigh, rubbing his thumb gently as he kissed the side of her neck and her head multiple times.
Katie caught my eye, smiling gently. When Elton and her let go, she grabbed onto my hand hesitantly before intertwining our fingers. Kissed the top of her hand, smiling widely. "Thank-"
"Don't thank me. I told you I always have your back." She looked taken back before tearing up. I stood up quickly dropping her hand. "I'm going to ask the doctor when the hell we can bust you out of here."
