The group consisted of everyone except for Dom as Zane had mentioned how he wished to leave him at home. No shock there, nor did any of us argue, as we did not want to have to deal with the consequences that came along with a belligerent Dom. I arrived at the airport with Zane, greeting a tired faced bunch of twenty-something year olds and Jason, minus Katie. She stood in the front of the group with a big smile plastered on her face and an iced coffee in hand. She grabbed my face, smoothing my cheeks together with her left hand to kiss my lips quickly before throwing her arms around Zane's shoulders. "Hey there, birthday boy! How are you? Are you excited for ya' big week?"
"How many of those have you had?" Zane laughed as she pulled away from him, sipping on her coffee.
"Only one!" She frowned, earning a look of disapproval from Gabbie from behind her.
"One at the airport, three all together." She grumbled, throwing up the hood of her black, zip-up hoodie. She crossed her arms over her chest and leaned to her right. Placing her head on Liza's back, she spoke in a sleepy tone. "What was the point of booking a three in the morning red-eye. Do you hate us?"
"On the contrary, my dear!" Katie shouted, grabbing boarding passes from her rainbow-holographic fannypack. I examined her outfit to see she was wearing a jersey-material, black onesie and her black, fuzzy Puma slides. She handed out the boarding passes to everyone except for Zane, smirking. "Do not show Zane yours and I will give the girl yours myself. I want this all to stay a surprise."
"You're too much! Just tell me!" Zane whined, stomping his foot.
"Amber and Will are going to meet us there. She's already on the plane with him as we speak." I ignored Zane, informing Katie who clapped her hand to her wrist excitedly. "They're gonna check in at the hotel. All we have to do is get there."
"I'll tell security you're holding me hostage." Zane threatened, hands on his hips.
"Yes. Tell the guard that a middle-eastern male is being held up by a group of white kids." Alex spoke in a monotone voice, warning laughs from the group.
"I'm sure that'll really teach us a lesson, bud."*****
We arrived on the plane within a few hours without hassle, and much to Zane's dismay, without letting him know where we were going. As the plane began to fill up, Zane began to grow suspicious of the dad's with Hawaiian print shirts on. Before he could begin to question us, Katie had him downing his third mimosa before takeoff. She sat in the middle of us, holding onto my arm for dear life as she was a very anxious flyer. As we buckled up, awaiting the oncoming takeoff, she looked over at me with doe eyes. "You think this is gonna go okay, right? Like I did everything right?"
"Baby, this is gonna be the trip of our lives because of you." I brushed her hair from the side of her face, cupping her cheek gently before giving her a kiss. I broke from her, leaning my forehead against hers as I whispered. "He's gonna shit himself when he sees where we are. Thank you for being so perfect."
The second time I kissed her, I felt her body melt next to mine. And though there were times this has happened before, and I can name all said times, this time was different. This time, I knew why she was melting, and I felt the same way. It was because for the first time, in a very long time, we were back to where we started in our relationship. And as I closed my eyes and felt her lips mangle with mine, an image of her in a white dress walking down a bright, rich, red carpet strewn with white rose petals came into my mind. And as we broke apart, I looked down at her smiling, and realized she had a similar vision to mine, or so I hopped. And maybe, just maybe, the idea of us getting married was still alive after all.
