My hair was tucked under a light brown, cowboy hat that matched my red, green, and brown plaid shirt that was cropped and sleeveless. I paired it with cowboy boots to match the color of my hat as well as high-waisted denim shorts with flowers embroidered around the sides of the legs. I felt the sun beat down on my skin in the desert heat, already beginning to sweat after we had set up our tent. I was currently having a beer with Kristen and Liza, joking around with the way the boys had set up the tent. I took a sip of my beer, turning around to look at the group. My eyes landed on Elton who was shirtless in medium-wash skinny jeans and Vans, a black cowboy hat and sunglasses adorning his face. He smiled, waving slightly at me. I waved back, going back to the girls.
I finished my beer, excusing myself to get another. I heard myself be replaced with mber in the group, mildly annoye though I knew I shouldn't be. I went to the cooler and grabbed another beer, cracking it open and spitting the cap into the trash. Elton walked up to me, smirking. "You don't change, do you?"
"What can I say, creature of habit." I laughed awkwardly, swaying my arm and giving him a thumb up.
"So, I've been meaning to ask you something..." Elton started, waiting for me to say something. I shrugged, signaling for him to continue. "Wanna come paintballing for TFIL in June? All of our fans adore you and I thought it would be really fun."
"Are you serious?" My eyes lit up with excitement. "Of course I would!"
"Sick!" Elton gave me a high five, his hand lingering on my a second longer than I would have liked. I retracted my hand, hoping he wouldn't notice.
"Eltie!" Heath ran up to Elton, throwing an hand on his shoulder for support Heath was already tipsy and was working on his way to being plastered quite quickly. "Eltie, eltie, eltie! Come see the Mrs. with me!"
I giggled, knowing what he meant. Elton gave him a confused look, which I quickly clarified for him. "Shania Twain. She come on at six on the main stage."
"After George Strait!" Heath smiled brightly before realizing what he had said. My chest felt as if a meteor struck me, creative a crater in my chest cavity as I saw Heath quickly sober up for a split second. I could sense that he didn't understand the magnitude his words had left on me as he immediately covered up the pained expression in his eyes. He shook his head quickly as if he was erasing the memories of the times we would sing together, looking back at Elton. "So, are you in? Everyone else wants to go see Rascal Flats because they think they're real."
Elton shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck. "I'll grab Scott too, I know he likes her. Katie?"
I glanced at Heath, seeing him half hoping I would say no, though... I couldn't resist the queen. "I'm totally in!"
Elton smiled cheerfully, blissfully unaware of the look Heath was giving me. My smile faltered as he gritted his teeth while speaking. "Can't wait!"

 "Can't wait!"
