Heath's P.O.V
After two weeks of putting it off, Katie had booked her appointment for the IUD. We were currently sitting in the room, waiting patiently for someone to come in and speak to us. I had noticed Katie had been acting rather jumpy today, though I chalked it up to her being nervous about the level of pain it would be. I took a step closer to her, lifting the back of her black, crewneck, hoodie up and rubbing her back. I felt her muscles relax under my touch, a small smile growing on her lips. ending to my right, I kissed her shoulder, resting my chin there as I spoke. "You need to relax. It'll be over in five minutes and than we will be paranoia free for the next ten years... Or if you choose to take it out sooner."
"Oh wow, look who read WebMD." She joked, rolling her eyes. Katie bent to the side, her lips finding their way to the top of my head. I grinned up at her, earning a kiss on the lip quickly. She pulled away, letting out a harsh wind of air in frustration. Her eyes met mine as she fidgeted with her fingers in her lap. "I hate this. I hate the doctors and I hate the smell of latex and I hate the feeling of these stirrups and I hate- Hey, Doctor Simon."
"Complaining about being back here, huh?" The middle aged man joked. He took a pen from his long, white lab coat and brought his glasses down from his full-head of salt and pepper colored hair, placing them down the bridge of his nose. He read through the front page of the file upon the counter, quickly singing a few lines as he spoke. "In my defense, I didn't call you here this time. You made the appointment yourself."
"And in my defense, I'm going to shove my foot up your-"
"Here's your gown, Miss." A brunette nurse who could have passed for a middle schooler walked into the room, handing a white gown to Katie as she was mid-sentence.
"I'll leave you here to change." The doctor smirked, turning his attention towards me. "I don't mean to burst your bubble, but you have to be out of the room, too, son."
"Am I allowed to come back in?" The doctor turned on his heel, an amused expression on his face. "I mean, when you do the... Thing?"
The doctor looked at Katie for approval, who quickly nodded with puppy dog eyes at him, before he looked back at me. "You're the first boyfriend in twenty-three years of doing this that has asked if he could stay with his girlfriend, and not the other way around." Before I could comment, he gave me a smile. "Oh course you may, under her discretion, of course."
I smiled, kissing Katie on the forehead before walking out of the room. I closed the door behind me, finding the water cooler that was across the hall. I briskly walked towards it, looking through my phone as I did so. I answered a few random texts before reaching out for one of the disposable, white, paper cups and pouring myself a cold cup of water. I paused the texting to chug the cup, only to refill it immediately after as I scrolled through Twitter aimlessly. From above my view of my phone, I saw the doctor and nurse walk back into Katie's room, the door closing over halfway behind them as to signal for me to come in. I threw back the rest of my cup, tossing it in the black waste bin next to the cooler, walking back towards the room.
As I reached for the door knob, I heard Katie begin to speak to the doctor frantically. "Please say it'll be alright to have... I'm just... I'm so nervous to have to do something like this again."
I stopped moving, waiting to hear what Doctor Simon said. "This is going to feel almost lie the abortion, except, you will be feeling different afterwards. You will still be dealing with cramps and some spotting, however."
I felt the ground I stood on wobble before realizing it was my knees shaking under my weight. I felt my vision go fuzzy as the pounding in my ears indicated I needed to get to the nearest, quietest room I could find. Spinning around, I ran straight ahead to a separate room, shutting the door behind me.
I felt my breathing become labored as sweat started to break it's way through my skin. I paced the room, my vision wavering as my blood pressure began to skyrocket to levels I was sure would put me into cardiac arrest. I ripped the thin, white paper off of the waiting chair, throwing it at the wall beside me. I kicked the stool beside the wall, sending it flying on it's side onto the opposite wall, nearly leaving craters in the mint green corner.
Abortion? She had an abortion? How could she never mention this to me? I mean... I get we are taking things slow, but we also made an honesty pact with each other. How long ago could she of had it? I mean... Maybe it was something her and Brennen dealt with. It would make sense, the kid's ego can barely fit in a tank top, let alone a condom. Maybe she had one when she was younger and just never told me? We... We... We share things that we shouldn't share. I send her pictures of my poop and she tells me how many hairs she pulled off her head when she washes her hair. How the fuck could she think that sharing an abortion was something secret. How could she-
"Sir, you can't be in here." My mind paused and for a brief moment, I heard nothing but the silence in the air from the blonde nurse before me's voice. I watched as her eyes went down to my clenched fists and I slowly opened them, feeling cuts where my nails dug into my palms. "Sir... Are you okay?"
"Excuse me." I walked past her and towards Katie's room, closing the door behind me before the nurse could stop me. I cleared my throat, looking at a bewildered Katie as she sat with her legs spread eagle in the stirrups. The nurse held a gown between the doctor and Katie's face for a it of privacy. They didn't seem phased by me at all as I immediately went to Katie's side, holding onto her hand. "Sorry. Zane called me about a plumbing emergency at the house... Everything is all good."
After a few minutes of silence and the life being sucked from my hand, the nurse lowered the curtain. The room began to go fuzzy again as the doctor told Katie the aftercare as she lowered her legs down to sit normally. I felt the wind get knocked out of me and I sat in the chair in the corner, attempting to look a if I was paying attention.
She couldn't think for a second I would never find out about this, right? I mean... For all I know, I heard him wrong. Yeah. I heard him wrong. Katie wouldn't lie to me... Again, at least. She knows what would happen if I ever found out she bullshitted me again. God... Look at her. She wouldn't do this to me. She couldn't lie to me. She wouldn't-
"Why are you looking at me lie I'm a fucking pork chop?" I blinked again to see Katie standing with her gown on, pointing at the wall. "Turn around! I need to get dressed."
I spun around, still slightly in a stooper as I spoke. "So, ugh... How bad was it?"
"Not the worst pain I've ever felt." She laughed as I heard her putting on her shirt quickly. Probably wasn't as bad as the emotional pain of lying to me for God knows how long, huh, you manipulative, evil, little, cun- "I'm all good, now."
"Well, I'm happy it wasn't that bad." I gave her a tight smile as she walked closer to me.
Katie put her hand on my chest, followed by one on the side of my neck. "Hey, seriously, thank you for staying with me. You didn't have to. And the fact that you offered? You're such a good guy." She smiled up at me, her hands making their way to paying with the hair on the back of my head. I instinctively wrapped my warms around her waist, though I felt like I was holding a shell of her. "I really love-"
My phone rang, and I checked the caller ID to see that it was Elton. I showed Katie who looked mildly disappointed, before motioning for me to answer it. I shook my head, ending the call, and quickly texting him I would call him when I got back to my place. "Let's go grab some food, huh? I'm sure you're starving too."
"I have to edit." Thank God. "Rain check?" Katie smirked as we walked out. She kissed my cheek, dragging my hand loosely behind her, as I followed her out the doctor's and back to Big Red.
