I felt the slight breeze that came from the mid-summer Florida air, finally feeling relief from the constant humidity. I threw my hair into a messy bun, the feeling of frizz on my neck beginning to make me uncomfortable. I had changed into a pair of black Soffe shorts and a large, plain, white t-shirt that Gabbie brought for me, knowing I would forget. I took off my shoes as I laid down a large sheet and plopped down on it, smiling up at Zane. He handed me a hard cider, the cap already snapped off for me. "Thanks."
I looked forward, seeing the three Hussar boys trying to get the projector set up without killing one another. Zane sat down next to me and I felt his body heat crawling up against my skin. I scootched slightly to the right, hoping he didn't notice, as he spoke. "You and him... I... Do you still..."
"I don't know." I shrugged, understanding what he was hinting at. We kept our voices low, trying to avoid anyone in earshot of us. I watched Gabbie and Cori setting up the snack table as I spoke, wrapping my arms around my knees as I curled them into my chest. "I really don't think... Everything I did to him is never going to be forgotten. I really don't think it's as simple as an 'I'm sorry'... Plus, he just ended it with Amber. I'm not going to force my self onto him."
I looked over at Zane as I took a long sip of my drink, watching him shake his head with annoyance. "If both of ya'll keep... Meghan sucked five dicks and her and Kam are on their way to meet his parents for dinner right now. I don't think you have shit to be sorry about anymore."
"I fucked his best friend." I shrugged, laughing slightly at the irony of me explaining it to Zane. Zane's cheeks reddened, taking a deep breath. "I did something a little worse than just regular cheating and that's because I didn't cheat. I betrayed his trust. You don't get trust back... You just don't."
Before I could have Zane yell at me, Gabbie sat down to his left with two plates of food and her drink. She handed a plate that was overflowing with desserts to Zane and he smiled at her, putting a hand over his chest. "Aw, baby! You know the way right to my heart."
I rolled my eyes, laughing lightly. I stood up, going to the dessert table. I picked up a white, paper plate and filled it with Cori's homemade, chocolate chip cookies. I went to grab a fourth one when my hand landed on top of someone else. I looked up, quickly retracted my hand when I realized it was Heath. He didn't seem to notice as he grabbed his cookie and began eating it, talking through his chewing, as he began to simultaneously fill up his own plate. "I'm so stoked. Mama really went in for dessert, yo."
I laughed, placing a piece of cheesecake onto my plate along with red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. I placed a fork into the cake as I moaned lightly. "God damn, I've always been in love with that woman."
"She's always loved you too." Heath smiled lightly and I felt my smile collapse, the weight of his words hitting me like a ton of bricks.
I turned away on my heel, going to take my place next to Zane again. I frowned when I saw Cori had taken it, placing her lawn chair as well as Mark's next to her. Shane had brought over his fiance after her shift at work who was currently sitting in between his legs off to the side on top of a large sheet. I went to the empty sheet that was between Mark and the young couple, crossing my legs and putting my hard cider in between them. I put my plate out in front of me, JoJo immediately running up to my side to beg. I shook my head, smiling, as I ran my fingers through his fur. I felt warmth next to me and Mark put on Sully. I turned slightly to see Heath out of the corner of my eye with two full plates and more food in his mouth. He placed two hard ciders in front of us and pushed food into his cheeks, whispering to me. "I got you another one if you want it."
"How generous." I smirked, seeing Heath's face become covered in chocolate. I motioned around my lips as I tried to hold back my laughter. "Your, ugh, your mouth... Fix it."
Heath began to move his tongue around the perimeter of his mouth in an attempt to get himself clean. I grimaced, shaking my head at him. He began to get frustrated, throwing his half-eaten cookie down onto on of his plates and whispering harshly at me. "Thank you fucking fix it, princess." I sighed, licking my thumb and beginning to wipe his face off. He swatted my hand away. "That's gross!"
"My tongue has been in your mouth, quit your bitching." I shook my head, cleaning off the chocolate around his mouth finally. He began to eat again and I felt eyes on me. I looked over to see Shane smirking at me before going back to the projector and giving his fiance a quick kiss on the neck.

I had been hyper-aware of my motions throughout the movie after I felt his family, Gabbie, and Zane exchanging glances with us all night. I tried to push it out of my head, beginning to think that I may just be overly-paranoid. The weather had begun to get colder as well, the humidity in the air calming down significantly.
I rubbed my legs, attempting to keep them warm. Heath began to move around, though I took it as him getting comfortable. A few seconds later, my legs were covered by Heath's black leather and jersey-material jacket he had been wearing over his burgundy Salty Crew tank top. He adjusted his black snapback, smiling at me quickly. I went to give him back his coat and he put a hand up, shaking his head no, and turning back to the projection screen.
I couldn't help but to look back at him and smile. I remembered back to the first time we had ever started to form a relationship, right in the backyard of the Denney house. And suddenly, all the emotions I had been trying to fight for the last few months smacked me in the face and I felt my head begin to get heavy. Heath looked over at me, raising an eyebrow. I shook my head, whispering. "Thank you."
Heath knew I didn't mean over just the simple jacket. He nodded his head, a smile appearing on his face. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders, whispering into my ear, before dropping his arm again. "I told you, I'll always be here for you. No matter what."
