Gabbie and I had gone home, both of us still making fun of Heath on the ride back. As we entered the loft, I set Charlie down who immediately went to his puppy pad to use the bathroom. I giggled, thinking of how human Charlie seemed to me sometimes. I closed the door behind us and Gabbie went straight to the kitchen, having promised she would cook us dinner tonight. She was going to make shrimp scampi for herself, agreeing to make flounder and pasta for myself. I leaned on the kitchen island as I watched her slowly get ready to cook, grabbing everything from around the kitchen. "Hey, Gabs... I think..." Gabbie looked up at me for a moment, grabbing the shrimp from the refrigerator and begin to clean them. "I gotta break up with Brennen."
"You didn't already?" Gabbie raised an eyebrow. When she saw my face, she explained herself, stumbling slightly over her words. "This girl, Maggie, posted some insta story with him in it last night. Everyone kept taking screenshots and stuff because it looked like they were holding hands... Have you not been on anything yet today?"
I frowned, shaking my head in disgust. I grabbed my phone and began to scroll through all of my accounts, seeing people question everything almost more than I was. I exited out of everything, pushing myself off of the counter as I called Brennen. He didn't pick up on the first ring, earning a look from Gabbie. I called a second time, walking over to the couch as if I went to my room, she would have heard everything anyway. The second time I called, he picked up, sounding out of breath. "Hey, baby! I-"
"Save it. Who is she?" I snapped.
Brennen stammered, his voice evident he was lying. "Who? I'm at the gym right now, I'm not with anyone."
"Brennen, don't lie to me."
I felt my breathe hitch in my throat when he decided to get ballsy and push me off. "Can we discuss this in person? I don't think this conversation is appropriate over the-"
"You're with her now, aren't you?" My heart dropped out of my chest and straight on to the floor in front of me.
I felt my surroundings move slowly as Brennen didn't answer. I glanced at Gabbie to see her hands on her hips, chewing the inside of her cheek as she waited a response, going red faced. Finally, Brennen spoke in a hushed tone. "Can we please talk about this later?"
"Leave my key under my welcome mat. Whatever you have of mine at your place, just chuck it. I don't need it. I really don't need to see you again that badly." Brennen tried to speak, but my ears completely tuned him out. "I get it, you know. I get that sometimes relationships get boring and you get a wandering eye. You should have just told me. I'm keeping Charlie though, so go fuck yourself."
I slammed the phone down, peering over my shoulder at Gabbie. She smiled lightly, picking up another shrimp. "That felt good, didn't it?"
"A little."
"Want a glass of wine?" She walked over to the sink, washing her hands quickly as she already began to grab a glass and pop open a bottle of pinot from the small wine fridge next to the bottom sink cabinet. Gabbie handed me the glass and walked over to the television, turning it on. She went to the Pandora option and began to play Frank Sinatra, turning up the volume. "Frankie will make you feel better. Come on, help me clean those ugly shrimp."
