I looked Katie up and down, shrugging, before looking down at the ground. She sat down next to me, fidgeting with her hands in her lap and her legs straight out in front of her. She looked down as she spoke. "So... I may or may not have yelled at that little twat when she got kicked out..." I shot my head over to her, looking at her as if she was insane. "It's fine, she's nineteen."
Katie looked over at me, batting her eyes at me. I tried not to laugh at her, shaking my head. "Did you card her as you screamed in her face." Katie shrugged, attempting to look innocent. "Katie!"
Katie giggled. "I was not going to sit back and act like I didn't hear what she said. My meet and greet was only two tables away and she was loud as shit." Katie ran her hand through her bangs and sighed. "We are okay, right? You know I didn't mean what I said."
"I know. We're fine." I smiled, though I knew she was keeping something from me. "How was your meet and greet?"
"Half good, half talking about how cute you and I were with a small percentage of people trying to discuss Brennen with me." She laughed, the pain evident in her voice. "Tell me how Maggie had the balls to try and talk to me."
"You're kidding?" I raised an eyebrow, taking a drag of my cigarette.
"Yeah. She came up as my meet and greet was finishing to introduce herself, as if I give a fuck." She scoffed. She looked at her phone, seeing the time. "Fuck... I have to go. I have another panel. We'll talk later?"
Katie pushed off my shoulder, getting up. I winced at the pain and she looked back at me before entering through the door I came out of. I stood up, looking at her with shame. "I may or may not have... We'll talk later."
Katie laughed, opening the door for me to walk behind her. "You're so strange."*****
We had finished for the day and were on the roof for one of the after parties that were happening this weekend. Currently, I was drinking with Zane, staying close to the bar. I leaned back, the metal bar of the bar edge hitting just below my tattoo and I retracted for fear I would slip. "I can't believe Kam is so stupid."
I shook my head while Zane shrugged, defending him. "Love is stupid. He's crazy about Meghan, you know that."
I watched on as Kam made Meghan laugh, her hand making it's way to his and gripping it as they spoke. I rolled my eyes, going to speak when Andrea came up to Zane. She put her hands on his chest, smiling up at him. "Baby! I want you to meet some people!"
Before he had a chance to speak, Andrea dragged Zane behind her to a group of cackling girls. I pushed myself away from the bar, headed towards where I thought I saw Elton. I stopped in my tracks, seeing him snake a hand around Katie's waist, pulling her closer to him. She was giggling and put one of her hands around his shoulder, smiling up at him.
"She doesn't like him how you think." I jumped slightly, Gabbie joining me at my side. I furrowed my eyebrows at her, turning to face her in an attempt to burn the image of Katie and Elton out of my mind. "She just is having fun right now, I promise you. Plus... Brennen is getting jealous watching."
"If you say so." I scoffed, taking another swig of my drink.
"I know so." Gabbie smiled and I could tell she was trying to hint at something. "So... Are you going to grow balls and ask her to come with you?"
"What do you mean?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Zane told me how you wanted to invite her to the family barbecue." Gabbie smirked. "I think you should. He's taking me and not Andrea because she is leaving for Los Angeles early... It will be fun."
"I don't know if she even would, I mean... It's not like my mom doesn't know what happened." I frowned, remembering the shit that came out of my mother's mouth when she found out the full story. "I think... I think Katie would become the barbecue."
"I think you just are trying to avoid some inner shit." Gabbie laughed. Gabbie put a hand gently on my upper arm, speaking softly. "Talk to her. Ask her... I highly doubt she is going to say no."
"And I guess I'll have to get her a gun vest if she decides to see my mom." I joked, slightly, my laugh sounding faker than the laugh coming across the room from Zane to Andrea. I turned to see him looking back at me with a pained expression. I looked back to Gabbie, speaking as I walked off. "Excuse me while I go save him."
