I feel with my back onto the bed, my naked torso sticking to the perfectly white sheets. Amber laughed as she fell next to me, throwing the black comforter over her torso to cover up slightly. She took a ponytail holder off of her side table and threw her hair into a ponytail as she spoke. "Wow... I'm gonna need you to be a piece of shit more often."
"Does this mean I can sleep inside? It's awfully cold in the dog house." I rolled over, throwing my arms at her.
I wrapped my arms around her waist, slowly sliding my left hand onto her chest. She wrapped an arm around my shoulders, tilting her head to lay on top of mine. "I guess if you absolutely have to..."
I laughed, getting on top of her and kissing her neck as she laughed.

I had landed back home, just in time to help with the preparation of Katie's party. I was currently in the kitchen with Kam, making a large pan of ziti, while he worked on the chicken marsala. Kam looked as though he wanted to say something to me, so I spoke up for him. "Is there something you wanted to say, man?"
Almost instantly, Kam spat out his words. "I really don't want to go tonight at all! I love Katie, but I fucking hate that group, man. They all ignore me." He slammed down a piece of chicken to season it, angrily, as he continued. "I'm so sick and tired of listening to them all talk about their lives and ignore me when I speak."
"The group... They do love you. I know the girls do and Big Nik and Scott and Todd and-"
"Everyone but David, right?" Kam rolled his eyes. "I hate people that think they own the world."
"Just think of Katie's face when she sees you there. You'll be fine." I waved a hand as I wrapped up the ziti in foil to put in the refrigerator.
"Speaking of Katie... Is everything okay with you two? I haven't heard either of you mention each other."
I shrugged. "Amber was up my ass about talking to her." Kam gave me a worried expression as I kept speaking. "I don't blame her... If I had to be in her shoes I probably would have flipped long before."
I felt Kam's judgement as he shook his head disapprovingly. "Dude... I think you two a break." I stayed silent until Kam corrected himself. "I think Amber is perfect, Heath. She's got brains and hella booty, but... I'm gonna be real with you, I think she's too good for you."
"I get what you mean, but you're wrong. We go good together." The lie sounded disingenuous even to my own ears.
I avoided eye contact by beginning to start making her favorite kind of cake cake, yellow cake with funfetti frosting and rainbow sprinkles, as Kam spoke. "She is gonna marry a doctor or another lawyer someday. She's destined for it. You... You need someone who is more your speed."
"My speed is Amber." I said plainly, pouring the batter into two separate cake pans.
"Amber is that classic, '72, Cadillac DeVille with custom rims and original paint that looks as fresh as the day she came off the lot. You're, like... You're that '90 Honda Civic with one rim left because they all got stolen, a cassette radio, and the bumper is held up by duct tape." Kam gave me a tight smile.
I put the cake in the over, shutting the door behind me as I narrowed my eyes at Kam. He was putting away the last buffet tray left before he turned to me. "So, what's your point?"
"Ever think you hold her back from finding her matching muscle car because you don't want to admit she deserves better?" Kam walked away as he saw my face become stoned, heading towards his room, and closing the door behind him.
