I awoke to the smells of fancy cooking underneath my nose, immediately peaking my head up. I looked and saw that I was resting on top of Dex's back as Charlie laid at my feet. I sighed, stretching as I rose up slowly. I looked over the back of the couch and into the kitchen, seeing Kam preparing a large breakfast. I smiled to myself, walking over to him groggily. He turned around as he flipped a pancake with one hand, using the pan, and wiped his hands off on the towel around the waist of his apron. "Hey, sleeping beauty. How are you?"
I smiled, sitting down on the bar stool. "Hey... Where's everyone?"
"Zane and Heath are in Heath's old room. Elton took Gabbie back to his house to do some TFIL thing." Kam shrugged, plating the pancake. He grabbed the plate which I noticed had bacon and eggs on it as well, handing it to me. "Banana pancakes with eggs and turkey bacon."
"How did you know my favorite?" I smiled widely, grabbing the fork he was handing me out of his hand and proceeding to scarf don the food.
"Heath went out and bought a bunch of things and told me what to cook, I had no idea." Kam shrugged again, smirking slightly. "So.... You looked pretty cozy with Elton last night."
"I could say the same about Gabbie and you." I batted my eyelashes at him, playing innocent.
"I am the one who is single." Kam flashed me a toothy grin, earning a dark grimace from me. Kam laughed to relieve the tension. "I'm just saying... I think you should leave that loser."
"Loser?" I raised an eyebrow, a piece of turkey bacon hanging out of my mouth.
"I mean he's chill, but he's so...." Kam widened his eyes, shaking his head in amusement as he began to clean up his mess. "I love myself, but I've never seen someone look in a mirror more than I do."
I shook my head, trying not to laugh. "I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying you're an asshole."
"I am what I eat!" Kam gleamed, winking at me as he took the plate I pushed towards him. He looked down then looked back up at me in amazement. "I forgot how insanely fast you eat. It's good to have you back around here."
"I have to film today... Just a vlog, though. Do you think it would be okay to ask you and everyone to be in it?" I played with my fingers nervously.
I felt warmth over the tops of my hands as Kam reached across the island, putting his hands on mine. "Stop acting like we are going to turn on you at any minute. There's still some awkward shit we all need to learn, boundaries wise, but other than that... We are all back oto being up each other's asshoes constatly. Go in the room and ask them and I'm sure they will say the same thing." I went to speak but he pulled away, putting his finger up and pointing at me in the face. "Don't say it, I know. Zane thinks it's weird you two don't talk either. I told him the same thing I'm going to tell you- Let it happen naturally."
"Rome wasn't built in a day." I gave him a tight grin, repeating something he used to tell me when he would see me stressed out and walking around the apartment. I pushed myself off the stool and walked towards the bedroom door that was closed. My hand was on the doorknob when I looked back at Kam. "Thank you."
Kam smiled to himself, continuing to clean a random glass that was in the sink. I knocked lightly, earning no response, before walking into the bedroom. I frowned, seeing nothing in the room except for the indents on the carpet where his furniture used to me. I sighed, realizing that this room must have never been touched since Heath moved out. My mind instantly began to flash back to when they first moved in here, excitement in all of their heads as they prepared for the new chapter in their lives. My reminiscing was cut short by a buzzing noise that struck fear into my heart.
I went towards the bathroom door, seeing it being slightly closed. I heard the regretful 'oh my god' moans coming from what sounded like Heath, followed by a female and male giggle. I put my hand on the door, letting it fall open naturally. I went bug eyed at the image of Gabbie and Zane filming Heathrow with both my vlog camera and his. Heath was looking into the mirror, making child-like winging noises as hair slowly fell from his razor and into the sink.
I couldn't look Heath in the eyes as the three of them looked at me like deers that were in front of my eighteen-wheeler. I stuttered inaudible words before Gabbie spoke up. "Surprise! Kam lied, I'm still here!"
I slowly tilted my head at Heath, the buzzing of the racor stopping as he turned to me with a lopsided Hitleresque moustache. "Kate, help."
I didn't say anything, walking up to him with a look of disgust on my face. Gabbie and Zane continued to film me, as if I was actually acting. "What level meth did you smoke that this is an acceptable thing to do at ten in the morning? Where the fuck is your woman?"
"She left me unsupervised and went to work to fund my bad habits." Heath pouted, using his baby voice.
I groaned, grabbing the racor from his hand. I looked behind me for a moment, jumping up on the bathroom counter in order to me at eye-level with him. I motioned for him to come forward as I began to shave down his beard, the hairs falling between my legs. I looked down, sighing, and shaking my head as I continued to help him. "I'm so mad at you. Like genuinely furious with you. You look like a fucking mole rat, Heath!" He went to protest but i pointed in his face. "Don't you dare be rude to me or I'll facetime Amber myself."
I saw Gabbie and Zane exchanging looks as they saw me place a hand gently on Heath's neck, only to stabilize his face so i didn't cut him. I began to feel uncomfortably aware of being filmed, trying to ignore the stream of comments I could only imagine would be flooding the bottom of this video. I began to question whether or not Heath nor myself would even use this footage, though I also was happy Gabbie was filming me... Which means the boys had obviously had to have a discussion of whether or not they wanted to be in the public eye with me again. And I guess that they would have had to say yes because- "Ow, bitch!"
"Someone in the comments is gonna go 'she did that on purpose!'" Zane joked, causing Heath and Gabbie to laugh awkwardly and me to blush, thankful that Heath laughed.
I jumped off the counter, slightly rolling into Heath's body before I stepped back, looking at him in the mirror. His five o'clock shadow was patchy due to the way he shaved it, causing him to have to take a handheld razor to clean his entire face up. The three of us watched on in silence, shaking our heads as we watched Heath fo from twenty-four to twelve for the second time. "Baby, are you going through a crisis?"
Heath stopped shaving to laugh at Zane. "Baby, stop! I tried to look cute! I thought that because I aged it would look better!"
"You shaved your face a year ago, not five, asshole!" Gabbie said, laughing.
I shook my head, whipping the phone out of my bra that had been there all night. I ignored the fact that Brennen hadn't hit me up yet and went to my contacts list, finding mbAmber. I clicked her name, facetiming her. She picked up on the third ring, clearly in a courtroom as she was walking quickly. "Hey, Katie! I'm headed into court right now, what's up?"
"It's fine! This will only be a minute." I looked over my phone to see a look of horror on Heath's face as he dried his face with a towel. "So... I think you need to be more careful of your man being unsupervised."
I watched the light leave her eyes as if I was about to tell her something about Heath and I, though I couldn't wait to see even more comments on that. I pointed the camera on the phone to the back, being able to face Heath. Amber went red, her eyes going a darker brown than normal as she began to scream. "Heath! You little son of a biscotti! What the frick-frack is wrong with you?" We all stayed silent as she whispered into the camera, trying not to crack a smile. "The judge is literally two feet away from me coming back from recess, don't make fun of me. I'll yell at you later, I love you, bye."
When she hung up, I slid her back into my chest, shaking my head at Heath. He frowned, his eyes going puppylike at me. "Is it really that bad?"
"Now that I can be honest since I don't have to kiss you?" I put my hands on my fhips, frowning. "You honestly look so weird that I just.... You look like a horse."
"Stop! Are you serious? Is she serious?" Heath whined, looking at a snickering Gabbie.
"IKam!" Gabbie called, Kam screaming a 'what' back to her. "Can you grab me some sugar cubes? I think Lucky deserves a pick-me-up treat!"
Zane, Kam, Gabbie, and I all joined each other in loud laughter, Zane even pointing at Heath as he crouched over. Heath bowed his head, looking up at us like a child who was being bullied on the playground. He attempted to speak, only earning a naying noise from me, quickly shutting him up. I began laughing harder with everyone, soon Heath joining in as he playfully pushed my shoulder. I watched as he smiled at me for the first time in what seemed like a lifetime of waiting for us to get back to this point. And suddenly, I realized what I would have to do.
And it was going to kill me.
