I got up at the crack of dawn, heading straight for the kitchen. I made Amber a spread of Pancakes that spelled out 'I'm sorry' with whipped cream, strawberries, and filled with chocolate chips. On another bowl was bacon, eggs, and blueberry muffin told. I also made her a mimosa to start the morning, hoping she wouldn't be too angry at me for spiking her drink before work. Just as I was putting the finishing touches on the meal, she came shuffling into the room. "Surprise!"
Amber yawned, throwing her hair up into a shorter ponytail. "You made 'I'm sorry' pancakes?"
"Among other things." I smiled cheerfully, pointing towards the rest of the spread like I was a female model on The Price is Right. "I also may have spiked your orange juice. I also don't think you care much."
Amber sat at the kitchen table slowly, beginning to eat her meal in silence. I watched from across the table, taking my apron off and putting in front of me. She looked up at me slightly before going back to focusing on her food. "I'm still mad at you."
"As you should be." I confirmed, catching her off guard.
"I don't want you near her. Seriously." Amber shook her head, looking up at me. "Not alone, anyway. I don't trust her."
"Me or her?" Amber stayed silent for a moment and I continued to speak. "I'm not going to cheat on you, end of conversation. Katie isn't like how you think, at all. And truthfully, I don't know why you think she is."
"I've seen the way she looks at you." Amber stated simply. There was silence between us before she stood up after a moment, pushing in her chair. "I love you, but this isn't the Roman Empire. I'm not going to fight in an arena for your attention, babyboy."
I stood up, pouting. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Amber smiled lightly as I walked towards her. She put a hand on my cheek, lightly rubbing my beard with her thumb. "I don't need to compete to be someone's first. I should already be your first choice. If I'm not, let me know so we can end this on good terms. But if you want to actually try... Then let her fucking go."
"You realize what you're asking me to do, right?" I shook my head quickly as if to erase the last five minutes. "I can't just ghost someone who's been with me for over four years."
I felt her pat my cheek lightly before she stood on her toes to kiss my cheek. She backed away, shrugging. "Like I said, it's up to you. We were friends before this and I'll never leave you... But I'm not going to support you treating me like a yo-yo."
And with that, she walked out of the kitchen, slipping into her bedroom, and closed the door behind her.
