We had decided to watch the Criminal Minds marathon that was on television. Charlie was curled up on Heath' lap who had fallen asleep petting him. Gabbie was knocked out in between Heath and Kam, her head slightly tilted onto his shoulder as Kam leaned his on top of hers. I felt something cold on my left hand and saw Dexter licking the top of my hand from the floor. I smiled, patting the couch and he jumped up immediately. He curled into my lap, only half being table to from his size. I heard a laugh come from the kitchen, seeing Elton walk over to me with a beer in each hand. He handed me mind before sitting down next to me, moving Dexter's lower half to rest on top of Elton's thighs. He took a sip of his beer, whispering as to not wake anyone up. "How are you? I mean... How are you and Brennen?"
"I can't believe he tried to lie about that petty shit." I shook my head, letting out a deep breath. "I know I'm one to talk, I get it, but... That's...."
"Well, did he ever text you?" I frowned, not wanting to answer that. Elton stared at me until I shook my head, no. "You're kidding me?"
"I wish I was." I rolled my eyes, looking forward. My eyes caught Heath who slightly stirred, kicking his leg around slightly. Charlie lifted his head up, staring up at him, before settling back down again and drifting off to sleep.
"He is really happy you guys are on good terms again." I jutted my head back towards Elton, the apartment dimly lit, though I could hear the smile in his voice. "Between Kam, Zane, and I... He never told anyone how torn up he was over you. Like, I mean.... I was scared there for a while. I originally got Dexter for him, but he isn't able to have a dog at his place, so I winded up with him.... You, ugh.... How do you like Amber?"
"I realLy wish I hated her, but.... She's fucking great, Eltie." I shook my head, lightly laughing as I took a sip of my beer. Elton did the same as I continued to speak, his eyes growing wide as he gave me a thoughtful expression. "She's so.... She's smart, really funny, she keeps him in line, it doesn't hurt that she's hot as fuck either.... She's perfect for him."
"I wouldn't say perfect." Elton shook his head, immediately. "She's a gorgeous and very successful girl, I'm not saying differently, but she.... Amber is twenty-three going on thirty. Heath is twenty-four going on sixteen, maybe seventeen on a good day. She can be silly and goofy, but when it comes down to it.... Heath is just not in the same frame of mind as her."
"I think you don't give Heath enough credit"." I ran my fingers through Dexter's fur, hearing him pant softly. "Heath can be way more of an adult than you think."
"Amber wants marriage and kids!" Elton tried not to scream, though he raised his voice in a whisper. "Heath can't even remember to wipe his own ass!"
"That was one time and he was drunk, okay!" I pointed a finger at Elton, causing him to stifle a giggle. I looked down at first before staring back at Heath, watching him breathe slowly. His mouth was slightly agape and I could hear small snoring sounds coming from him. "He told me a lot about how he really wanted two kids, a boy and a girl, preferably. He wanted to know what it was like to have both. If you ask me, I know he wanted just one girl more, though, especially for the first kid... He always used to say how he can't wait to spoil them and protect them... He was going to teach them how to fish and hunt and..."
I shook my head, unable to finish without tearing up. I sniffled, calming myself before I let any tears have the chance to fully fall. I looked at Elton, his eyes becoming sad for me. "I don't think he would have kids with her because I think I ruined him. If he even wants to marry anyone anymore, I would be surprised."
"I wish I could lie to you, but you really know him better than you think you do." Elton shook his head, confirming my suspicions. He took my beer from my hand, placing it on the coffee table in front of us. He threw an arm around my shoulders and I immeiately leaned into him, his beard tickling my forehead as he spoke. "I think you need to be single for a while. Seriously... Not because of anything else, but because you don't know what you want."
"Is i sad if I only stay with him because of Charlie?" Elton shook his head, laughing slightly. He kissed the top of my head, an act that caught me off guard, rubbing my back as I spoke. "What happens if Charlie misses his dad?"
"I think Charlie found a new daddy.... Like mother, like son." I gave Elton a playful slap on his cheek, causing him to laugh as he caught my wrist with his free hand. I tried my best to stifle a laugh until I couldn't anymore, shaking my head and laughing into Elton's chest to muffle myself.
Out of the corner of my eye, I once again saw Heath shuffling. Only this time, I swear his eyes were open... When I turned to look at him fully, he was in his original sleeping position. I brushed hit off, continuing to watch Criminal Minds with Elton.
