I laid awake the remainder of the night, nothing but the dim light on my phone screen lighting up the living room. I pet the top of Charlie's head as he too was restless, knowing something wasn't right. I had decided to not wake up Gabbie as I was hoping that everything was just a big misunderstanding. Heath's phone was also charging on the coffee table in front of me, to the right of my feet. I stared at it, as if it was mocking me, questioning if I should go snooping. I frowned, looking at Charlie as his deep, brown eyes cried up to me. "Blink twice if I should snoop." Sure enough, Charlie didn't even so much as take a breath, let alone blink, though I was too impatient to wait. Grabbing his phone, I tapped his password quickly in and began looking through his messages.

I frowned, not sure what Kam was discussing with him about. I began to feel uneasy, never remembering Heath mentioning any letters. My uneasiness turned to sickness when I began to read his messages with Zane.

I frowned and quickly turned my face into a a maze of worry as I pushed myself off the couch. Grabbing my car keys, I threw on my pair of flip flops with Heath and my's phone in hand and headed out the door and immediately to the boys' house.

I didn't bothering calling the boys as it was just barely daybreak and I knew their phones would be on silent anyhow. Using the old set of keys I had, I unlocked their door, locking it behind me, before moving further inside. Though I moved quickly, I attempted to be silent as I saw Kam's door was closed still because he hasn't gone to work. I opened Zane's door, seeing him shirtless, with just a pair of black boxer-briefs, and sprawled out like a starfish above the covers. Before I could open my mouth, Zane threw his hands over his eyes in frustration. "Kam, I told you, I don't know what the fuck we are going to- How did you get in here?" I raised my hand, showing the set of keys dangling off my red and pink rose-covered land yard. Pushing himself up, Zane dangled his legs for a moment over the side of the bed before placing them down. He didn't look at me as he spoke in a concerned tone. "Please tell me you found him." I felt a ping in my heart, walking deeper into the room. Zane lifted his head up to me, his eyes softening as he saw me fighting back tears. Zane reached out for my hand, pulling me by my wrist to his side. Sitting in the bed, I was immediately engulfed in his arms, feeling him slightly shake from fighting back tears. I wrapped my arms around his waist, forgetting how much I missed being this close to him. Speaking into the crook of his neck, I felt him smile on my shoulder. "The minute I found out you were hiding shit, I wanted to kill you." I pulled away, though Zane's arms fell to my waist. I cupped his face into my hands, my hands imbedding in his mess of facial hair as I did so. "I'm really sorry I made you hide shit from him though. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I should have told him sooner. I'm-" Zane dropped my hands, falling slightly into his lap, as he cupped my face. "You didn't do anything wrong. What you did was protect him. I told him that when he flipped out, too. He-" Before Zane could finish his statement, the doorbell rang. And although I was relieved to not hear more of how I hurt Heath, I knew I needed to hear the rest of the story at some point. I followed behind Zane as he lazily walked to the front door, throwing in his red, Vine hoodie as he did so. Peering through the peephole, he turned back at me with a shocked expression before opening up the door. To our surprise, two police officers stood with their hands on top of their gun belts. "Is this Heath Hussar's residence?" I pushed my way underneath Zane's arm as it held the door open, feeling his hand fall onto my lower back as if to tell me to calm down. "Where is he? What happened?" "We need to speak to him about his relationship with a female named Lexi-" I could tell the taller, bald, white, middle-aged officer was becoming annoyed with how jittery I was becoming. His bushy eyebrow raised as I spoke quickly. "That's his ex-girlfriend. I'm his current. They dated when he was back at home in Florida. What he hell is going on? Where is Heath?" "He is not here?" Zane and I shook our heads no. "Mind if we look around?" "Not at all, come in, officers." Zane pulled me back by my shirt, allowing the officers to walk into the apartment. "Can we ask though... Why do you need to see him about Lexi? Is she okay?" "We are looking into- I'm sorry." The shorter officer spoke softly as his partner went into heath's bedroom. "My partner is a little harsh on cases like this." "Cases like what, exactly?" I pleaded with the older officer. "The body he found at the hotel a month ago? We were able to identify her from her breast implant. It was found in a dumpster at a convenience store a few miles from the hotel." The officer shook his head, a slight southern drawl becoming apparent as he shifted his weight on his feet. "Took so long to find her because we were looking for implants in the wrong state. Such a shame, such a shame." Yes. Such a shame this all is.
