The room fell still and my mind seemed like it was wiped clean. As I saw Beth's face begin to fall, I did the only thing I could think to do- Lie through my teeth.
"It was awful! I saw... I saw..." I broke down, my body releasing crocodile tears that I was slightly impressed came out of me. "I saw him stabbed and you were there in the kitchen with him! And there was blood everywhere! And... And... And Nathan was-"
"Come here, babygirl." Heath pulled me by the back of my head into his chest, wrapping his arms tightly around me as he spoke into the top of my head. "He's going and we aren't going anywhere. You hear me? You're stuck with me now for the rest of your life, baby."
I felt a shift in my tears as my chest stalled. Looking up, I pulled away from him and placed my arms on the front of his chest. He looked down at me, raising an eyebrow yet again. "Rest of tommy life?"
"Oh, what? You didn't think we were?" Heath smirked, pulling me back into his chest. I pulled my arms up, wrapping them around his neck. He kissed he top of my head before speaking. "You and I are going to be happy for the rest of our lives. I promise you that, babygirl."

As we got back into normal routine, I couldn't help but feel off. We had been back home for a week, and although nothing had gone down, I still felt like something was looming overhead.
Heath has just gone home with Zane, leaving our apartment with Gabbie to head to the boy's house. I had decided to take Charlie in my car as I still wanted to get some editing done before I came over, and I knew I wouldn't be able to do that with all the distractions over here. I took a deep breathe, hopping onto the sofa with my laptop on my lap. I placed a cup of coffee on the side table next to me just as Charlie jumped to the right of me, chewing on his favorite bone. I ran my hands through his fur gently for a moment before getting down to work.
After a few minutes, I felt the nagging feeling of eyes looming over at me. I began to feel my skin flush, nervous, before looking to my right. The bushes next to the door rustled, as if someone knew they were caught. I grabbed a hold of Charlie's collar, silencing him as he began to snarl. Before I could take a second breath, the doorbell rang. Normally, this would have caused Charlie to race to the door and begin barking. But he stayed silent and still, his eyes fixated on the wooden door. My breath hitched, as if holding it would make me appear invisible to whomever was outside of it.
I put my laptop on the coffee tablet, grabbing my phone next to me before scooping Charlie in my arms. I struggled with his weight as he was not as small as he used to be, but I got to my feet as quick as I could before my eyes locked on the doorknob, slowly turning.
I picked up my feet like I was flying, making my way to Gabbie's room and locking the door. I began to call Heath, hoping it was him making his way back to the house because he forgot something. The call rang for a bit, then went to voicemail. My throat became dry as I heard the door to the loft open and I knew I officially was not alone.
