Luke observed Alice, the girl who he was tutoring for the past month, how she slowly turned her ruler and tried to draw the incorrect triangle from the data she managed to calculate.

She was doing good but Luke knew better than to disturb her. She was smart but impatient and Luke needed a few sessions with her before she finally dropped her attitude around here. He wasn't helping in the school's tutoring center for that long but he quickly realized most kids thought he was there to make fun of their grades.

They were alone in the room because it was only lunch break but she was a cheerleader so that was the only time she had time.

The door opened suddenly and Luke immediately recognized his best friend's leather jacket and dark green hair. Michael looked upset and was clearly looking for him.

"After you've finished doing the next one, I'll be back in a minute."

Alice only nodded, still concentrated on the current task.

"Can we talk?" Michael asked and Luke nodded and pulled him behind the shelves.

"What's wrong?"

"I.." Michael sighed. "I have to cancel Friday."

Luke frowned. Friday was movie night and Michael loved movie night almost more than pizza Mondays.

"Why? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, it's just my dad heard that I almost failed my math test. It's either this or I'll have to sell my All Time Low tickets if I don't fix it."

The younger boy wasn't sure if he heard his best friend correctly. "What do you mean you failed? Michael, you almost got a B on the last one."

Michael chuckled but it was the same type as the one he'd let out when Luke would tell a joke that wasn't even funny.

"Mikey? Seriously, what's wrong?"

The older man sighed. "Well, I suck at math."

"But your.."

"Yeah, my grades in the past were good because of you."

Once more, Luke's brows met in the middle and his nose scrunched up like Michael hadn't showered in a week. He never tutored Michael.

"Don't give me that look Lu. We'd always do homework together and you know how confused I get."

Luke's heart clenched. He knew Michael wasn't saying it was his fault but he still felt like it was. They stopped spending every minute outside of school together for a reason. The same reason Luke picked up tutoring and a chemistry and ecology group.

"Michael you're not stupid, we can always do out homework together."

Michael's smile was bittersweet. "We talked about that."

Luke bit his lip and nodded. "Come here after school anyway. I know you finish before me but just come here and I'll send you a few equations and then we'll meet up and do the homework."

"Luke.."

"I insist."

Michael nodded and left, leaving Luke with his thoughts.

After the lunch break, Luke had gym class and spent the entire class running around the stadium and thinking. Even it wasn't his fault Michael was failing math it was his fault that they didn't spend that much time together.

Michael was openly gay since Luke had met him and that was when he was twelve. Luke blamed Brokeback Mountain and two beers he had for the stupid idea he got to kiss Michael.

Michael had admitted his love for Luke a few weeks before the incident and they've decided to spend more time apart.

Partly for Luke to get his shit together and because the last thing Luke wanted was to hurt Michael even more.

After gym Luke sent a few equations to Michael before heading to his Biology class.

Lu
Here you go, they're not that hard. See you after class.

Michael
I'll just blame my calculator if the results will be wrong.

Luke's heart was beating fast as he walked back to the tutoring room.

He said hi to a few tutors and made his way to the table that was occupied by the angel he called his best friend.

"Hi." He was nervous as Michael glanced up. "Are you done?"

"Nah, I have another two to go."

Luke quietly observed as Michael wrote the numbers down in his messy handwriting.

He knew when Michael looked at him in shock that he wasn't as stupid as he thought.

Michael turned his notebook around so Luke could see his results.

Luke skipped the first few results and smiled when he saw Michael correctly calculated the equation. Or better said his message.

9x - 7i > 3(3x - 7u)
9x - 7i > 9x - 21u
9x - 9x - 7i > - 21u
- 7i > - 21u
7i < 21u
i < 3u

Luke smiled and looked at Michael.

"I know math tutoring isn't the best date idea.."

"Luke.."

"Michael."

"You're crazy."

Grinning, Luke scooted closer to Michael with his chair.

"Crazy for you."

He grabbed Michael's hand in his.

"I'm sorry. For kissing you, for hurting you. I love you and I promise you now we'll fix your math grade and then I'll kiss you at the concert when Alex will be singing Remembering Sunday."

Michael smiled. "We better do some real work then."

And yes, maybe Luke was crazy but he was also in love with his best friend and that's all that mattered to him.
