"Daddy, why are you mad at dad?"

Mathew pulled Luke's hand while he was packing his son's little backpack.

Luke, who was holding down the tears for the past few days stopped what he was doing and sat on the small bed, patting the space next to him.

The five-year-old climbed onto his bed and looked at his father expectantly.

"I and your father had a little fight a couple of days ago so now he's staying with your grandparents for a little while."

Luke tried to be strong and not too emotional around his little one but he didn't want to lie to him either.

His son nodded and was quiet for a second before he asked again. "So it's like in kindergartner when Miss Swan is mad at me and sends me to a chair in the corner to think about what I did wrong before I go and play with my friends again."

Luke laughed for the first time in days. "Yes, baby, something like that." He picked up his son and placed him on his lap. "But I want you to know that both dad and I love you very much, okay?"

"Okay," Mathew said cheerfully like that was the only thing that mattered. "But what did dad do?"

The man sighed and placed a kiss on the blond curls his son got after him. "I and dad were very young when we found out we were going to have you. We were still in school and had no jobs so your dad promised me that no matter what will happen he'll always take care of us and give us everything we need."

"That's true." Mathew pitched in. "He always buys me new shoes when I need them."

Luke smiled. "Yes. But sometimes your dad doesn't realize that what we need, what I need, is for him to be home more often. Because what matters to me is that we got to see him and have dinner with him, while your dad wants to buy us a new home."

"I like our home. It has a nice garden and I have friends here. Plus, it has an extra room for whenever I'll get a brother or a sister."

"Exactly." Luke quickly agreed but then forgot he was talking to a five-year-old and it wasn't really the time to argue about that.

"Okay." Mathew decided. "So I'll tell dad that when I'll see him today."

"Baby, that's something your dad needs to figure on his own. C'mon now help me pack your stuff."

Mathew rushed to get his favorite teddy bear with which he always slept and gave it to his daddy.

"Daddy. Where's your wedding ring?"

Automatically, Luke touched his finger. "I don't know Matty, I lost it somewhere. But don't worry, I'll find it."

They still had fifteen minutes before Michael was about to come so they decided on watching cartoons. Luke had no idea how he'll survive the weekend alone since he had Michael and Mathew by his side for the past few years.
