warning: this is stupid. michael and luke are 5 years old.

Luke hated the stairs to Clifford's house. They were tall and he was small.
It took him ten minutes to climb a few steps but when he finally reached the door, he was proud of himself. He was a clumsy child and he didn't want to fall.
Luckily the doorbell wasn't that high so he could easily reach it.
After a few seconds, Mrs. Clifford opened the door and when she noticed her neighbor's son she smiled immediately. "Hello, Luke. Are you here to play with Michael?"
Luke nodded with his prettiest smile. At least that's what Michael told him. That he had a pretty smile.
"Mikey!" She called. "Luke's here."
Luke could hear someone running behind Karen and his heart started beating faster because he knew it was Michael.
"Does your mum know you're here?"
He bit his lip. "She told me to go out and play."
The smile on her face disappeared for a moment. "You went across the street by yourself."
"I checked the road five times," Luke said. "Pinky promise."
She sighed and smiled. Luke knew he was out of trouble. At least Mrs. Clifford won't be mad at him. His mum would be another story.
"I'll call your mum and tell her you're here."
"Lukey." Michael finally came through the door and pulled him into a hug.
Luke giggled and hugged his best friend back.
"You two stay in the garden, okay? I'll call you when snacks will be ready."
He followed his best friend through the house and he was happy he didn't have to walk the stairs again.
Their favorite game to play was knights and princesses. Luke would climb on the tree and pretend to be kidnapped by a dragon in a form of Michael's green slide and after killing the dragon, the princess would be saved.
This time Michael wanted to play it differently.
"I have to tell you something," Michael said and he had his important face on. The same face he had when he told Luke he saw Santa through his window on Christmas eve.
Luke sat down next to his best friend.
"Me and mum went to the mall yesterday." The five-year-old told him. "And we saw two boys, holding hands. And kissing."
Michael whispered and Luke's eyes widened. Michael never talked about kissing before.
"My cousin also kisses his boyfriend."
Michael looked at him like he shared very important information with him.
"I didn't know boys could kiss boys." The older boy admitted.
Luke nodded. "If you love someone you can kiss them."
"You're so smart." Michael praised making Luke blush. "My mum also told me we don't have to play knights and princesses but knights and princes instead."
Luke frowned. It sounded similar in his head but he understood the difference.
"I like being the princess."
"Okay." Michael agreed. "We don't have to change the rules."
Luke smiled. He asked his mum for a princess costume for his birthday so his and Michael's game would be even more fun.
"Luke?" Michael asked when he stood up.
"Yes, Mikey?"
"When I save after I kill the dragon can I get a kiss as a reward instead of a hug?"
Luke blushed but nodded.
The smile on Michael's face made him feel warm inside his tummy.
"Great." Michael laughed and ran to find his stick sword as Luke climbed onto the short tree.
