"We would have been much better prom kings," Luke whispered into Michael's ear when his boyfriend dragged him onto the dance floor after the crowns were given away.
Michael smiled and hugged him so they could dance. He kissed Luke's cheek while Luke was going on and on about how he was the social chair of the school and Michael was... well he was Michael. So they should totally win.
"Babe, I love you but can you please focus and stop stepping on my feet?" When Luke shut up he continued. "Thank you. Now listen to me, we don't need crowns on our heads to prove to people we are more than them. We're not that insecure."
Luke sighed and hugged Michael a bit closer. At least he got to pick the soundtrack for the dance and when Remembering Sunday came up they started to slow dance.
"I know, I just wanted to feel special."
That made Michael sad. He stopped dancing and moved his head off Luke's shoulder. "So I don't make you feel special enough?"
"No Mikey, I-"
"Because you know I didn't want to come. I didn't want to hire a limo, buy the tacky rose and bribe the football team to make that big promposal you wanted me to do. But I did it because I know how much it means to you. Because I wanted to make you feel special."
Luke grabbed Michael's head with both of his hands. "I'm sorry." He had to shout when a more energetic song came on. "I love you. And I appreciate everything you do for me. From day one you've been kissing me in public, wait for me at my locker, wrote me cheesy texts just because you know I love them. I know you're not into PDA and if it were up to you we'd spend all of our dates inside our rooms. I love you. Even without the crown, you are my king. You make me feel like actual royalty. I'm sorry for making you feel differently."
Michael took Luke's hands off his face and intertwined their fingers. His smile was small but it was there. "Love you, you sap."
Luke grinned and kissed his boy.
"Do you want to get out of here? We still have to watch the last part of Lord of the Rings together."
Michael chuckled and kissed Luke's cheek.
"I'd loved that."
"Great." Luke smiled. "I love you."

I'm too tired for anything that isn't fluff. I hope you enjoy.
Thoughts?
I've just read The Perks of Being a Wallflower so it was kind of inspired by that. [just the dance but still]
