Luke was too tired to drive home that morning when he finished his night shift so he took a cab home.

Streets were empty since it was Christmas and most people had a day off from work to be with their families.

When Luke got the job at the Sydney ER he knew he had to work on half of the holidays and he chose Christmas. Not that he didn't have a husband to come home to but because a lot of his coworkers had families and kids and wanted to have this day off.

For the past five years, Luke would work the night shift from 24th to 25th and come home to a Christmas breakfast and a big cup of coffee. He'd take a shower and then for the entire day they'd visit each of their parent's houses and maybe even some Christmas parties in the evening.

It was fun and all but Michael had to pinch him a few times so he wouldn't fall asleep while eating.

He tipped the taxi driver well and wished him nice Holidays before entering their apartment building.

When Luke walked into the apartment he didn't smell any coffee or saw any food on the counter. Maybe Michael didn't wake up. Luke wouldn't blame him it was near six in the morning and since it was the Holiday season the painter was working nonstop. Everybody wanted something painted for their loved ones and since they wanted to move they could use all the money they could get.

"Mikey?" Luke called. Not too loud to wake him up if he was asleep but loud enough to let him know he was home.

Michael walked from his studio in his sweatpants and dirty flannel he used when he was working. The bags under his eyes matched Luke's yet the smile on Michael's face was big and beautiful.

He walked towards his husband with open arms and Luke almost collapsed into them.

"Happy Christmas love," Michael whispered into his ear.

Luke sighed in content and hugged Michael just a bit tighter. "To you too."

"Did you drive home?"

The younger man shook his head. "I was too tired so I took the cab. Were you working or why are you in your work clothes?"

Michael helped Luke out of his winter coat while he explained himself. "I made a plan last year when I saw how tired you were for the entire following week after Christmas. I called both of our families last month and arrange one group dinner at my parent's house. That isn't until seven in the evening. I've cooked the food we'll bring with us yesterday after you left and then worked the entire night so we could sleep the entire day together."

Luke looked at his husband and he felt nothing but love for the man. "I fucking love you, Michael Clifford." They kissed and Luke remembered why they stopped exchanging gifts to each other years ago.

They were each other's gifts.

"But what about cookies?" Luke pouted. "I love baking cookies with you."

The older man smiled. "There's batter in the fridge and we'll bake them when we'll wake up. Now c'mon let's shower."

When Luke walked into their bedroom he could see Michael did some cleaning. The room was smelling fresh and the sheets were changed. A cup of chamomile teas was already on his bedside table.

"I don't deserve you," Luke said to his husband when he laid his head down on Michael's chest. He had to force himself to keep his eyes opened otherwise he'd fall asleep.

"You deserve everything." Michael kissed Luke's curls.

"Hey, Mikey?"

"Yes, love?"

"I've been thinking about the New Year's resolutions."

Michael was used to chats with tired Luke. They normally didn't make sense and sometimes Luke wouldn't even remember them when he'd wake up.

"And?"

"I think I want to expand our family."

Luke looked up and saw Michael smiling at him.

"Then I'll put it on my list as well."

Luke fell asleep cuddled by the best gift he could ever get.

can we get this to 30 votes since it's probably my favorite one shot in this book?

thoughts?

Michael being the perfect husband?

the recurring theme in this book is muke sleeping together because that's what I think about before I go to sleep - and then I often dream about it as well - it helps to calm me down.

Lots of love, Lucija ♡
