Today I met my mother's school friends and a few of their off springs.
My mom was born in an era sans technology. This is why it was very difficult for her to keep in touch with her school mates after she graduated. Being super busy in her academics didn't help either. Thus she had effectively lost contact with all of her school friends.
A couple of years back, she got connected to one of them via Facebook and the rest was history. Eventually, all of them got in touch and they now have a very active Whatsapp group. They even had a reunion which has turned into a series of reunions now. My mom becomes as excited as a kid whenever they make a plan and looks like she has had the greatest time of her life when she comes back. Now, one of the families decided it was a good idea to invite all the families and let them mingle.
My dad and I are not the social types so our decision was solely based on whether Alex was going or not. If I didn't get along with people there, I would at least him as a back up.
It was decided then. My entire family was going to meet mom's friends.
I had a feeling that this party was going to be suuuuuper boring and I was ready to look for a cosy corner to doze off.
But when we reached the place, we got introduced to one of the friends' daughter in law, who was a complete extrovert. We were around 9 kids and she was the one who initiated conversations and made us all comfortable. Initially it was a bit awkward but soon we were talking about our profession/academic streams, movies, real estate, food, etc.
We took a couple of pictures afterwhich we went to see the actual apartment (the party was at their patio). We went to the host son's room and thought of playing a game. Initially, we meant to play Heads Up but the host son taught a game called Connection and we got so into the game that we forgot all about Heads Up. It was really fun playing the game with them. In the end, we felt so far from the strangers we were a couple of hours ago.
I'm on my way back home now. I thought this was going to be a super boring day but it turned out to be quite a fun one.
Thanks mom.
