Today was a special day. The most look forward to day of each month of each year. The day, where everyone has a day off.

It was Wanda's idea for today's activity. She'd been getting a lot sadder about losing Pietro when her birthday got close, which it was, and she wanted a friend. Thor thought of dogs. Actually, he thought of "miniature horses", bit close enough. So technically, it was Thor and Wanda. Then it was Tony who contributed.

"Hey guys, you know how Wanda is lonely and Thor wants a mini horse?" he asked the group as he walked into the living room. Everyone was spread across the furniture, a few on the floor. He got some nods, a few mumbled replies, and one person saying an offended 'hey'. "Well," he continued on anyways, walking to the flat screen to turn it on the channel he had told Friday to put it on. It was an ad for an event going on at Central Park.

"What's this?" Steve asked, turning to look at Tony, then back to the screen. On the bottom, text rolled and Steve read aloud. "'Doggie Adoption Fair? Come and get a new dog to help support animals in shelters. Games, refreshments, and future buddies provided.' So we're going to a charity type event? On our day off?"

"With dogs," Tony countered. Everyone nodded, and Wanda stood up from the floor spot she had.

"Well, if I can get one, I'll go for it," she said. Tony shrugged and said sure, and before you know it the rest of the group was up and running, getting dressed and trying to get to the lobby floor so they could leave. Tony smiled at his success, watching everyone get excited for some publicity thing he was invited to. It was adorable.

After they all walked to the park, enduring many autographs and paparazzi pictures, nearly everyone ran off. Sam, Bucky, Wanda, Steve, Peter, and even Nat were the ones who hurried to different places: the food, the games, and the dogs.

Steve was one of the people who hurried to the dogs. He remembered that when living back in the 30s in Brooklyn, he had always wanted a pet. He tried many times to take home an ally dog he'd found, but his mom shot him down because they couldn't afford it. He still wanted a dog, and was one of the fist things he thought of when trying to have a new life. But with living in the tower with everyone else, he assumed it wouldn't be possible.

He looked over all the dogs, and to anyone who looked, they might think he was a kid (a freakishly tall one, but you know what I mean). The pure joy of picking out a new friend was thrilling and somewhat overwhelming. Couldn't he adopt them all? No, then other people wouldn't have a chance to get a new friend. Beside, he'd have enough fun with the other dogs they'd get.

While looking, one dog in particular caught his eye. They had a pink collar on, to help indicate that they were in fact a girl. She was a pure white dog, her hair messy and untamed. Her nose was a little pick, button nose, causing Steve to smile slightly at the adorableness. The end of her tail was curled up and she was sitting away from the other dogs. One dog come over at one point to her, and she curled away from them. Steve's eyebrows furrowed, and he saw someone who was working there.

You were scared. Absolutely scared. There was too much around you. Too many dogs. Too many humans. Too many people who could turn out to be just as horrible as those other people. They abandoned you. Good thing. They were mean. You shook slightly when the people put a little collar on your neck. It was just a terrifying moment. But when you had been surrounded by other dogs. So many. It was stressful.

Then add on all the people who would come by and look at you. And try to touch you. You thought they would hurt you. Your old owners did. They were mean. They all hurt you, and then one day left you in this new place. It was scary, cause all these people tried to touch you. You couldn't move. You were terrified.
