"It was a great night, and I had a lot of fun..."Jordan gave a defeated smile as he lowered his eyes and turned around. As he walked back into his room, Dahlia took a deep breath and finally looked up at Jordan's retreating from.
"But he wasn't you."
Jordan stopped moving but didn't turn around, unsure if he had heard Dahlia correctly.
After taking a deep breath, trying to settle his nerves, Jordan finally turned to face Dahlia, as his eyebrows knitted together in confusion.
"Jordan, I love you. And I probably always will."
He went to take a step towards her but stopped once the next sentence left her lips.
"But what you did... it crushed me. It. Broke. My. Heart."
Dahlia, who was still standing in the doorway, finally took a few steps forward, allowing the door to close behind her. The air between them was thick, but she had finally found her nerve and she wasn't going to stop now.
"I wasn't sure if I would ever be able to get over what you did. I never thought that the boy who I'd loved since I was three would ever hurt me like this, then it was like... a slap in the face that rocked my world in the worst way."
Once again, Jordan began walking towards Dahlia, who held her hands up to stop him.
"Ever since I was three, you were all I dreamed about; my future-- even back then. But then you went and sabotaged everything."
By this point, both Dahlia and Jordan both had tears in their eyes. Jordan nodded and kept his head down for a moment before looking up at Dahlia, with desperation painted all over his face
"I know, Doll, and I'm sorry. I didn't mean it, baby, I swear."
"I know you didn't, Jordy. I forgave you a long time ago."
Finally feeling relief was over his body, Jordan scooped Dahlia into his arms, pressing his forehead against hers as he held her face. The two stood in silence for a moment as Dahlia's hands covered Jordan's.
"I just don't think I can forget it."
Her voice was barely just above a whisper, but Jordan heard her loud and clear.
He dropped his hands from her face, but kept put, towering over her.
"What?"
Dahlia sighed sadly, as she gently cupped Jordan's face for a moment, rubbing her thumbs over his cheeks, feeling her heart on the verge of total shutdown.
"I just-- Maybe this was a sign."
"A sign?"
"Yeah. I mean, we're both so young, you know? Maybe this needed to happen, so we could both let go and explore what else is out there."
Jordan felt helpless. He knew that Dahlia was right. She deserved someone who would treat her like a princess and love her.
He just needed a chance to prove to her that he could still be that guy.
"I don't need to know what else is out there, Doll. I want you."
"So, why did you kiss that girl?"
Jordan hung his head in shame and sighed as he sat back on his bed.
Unable to come up with a real reason for what happened, he scooted back until he was against the wall, not caring that he still had his shoes on.
When he didn't respond, Dahlia nodded and smiled sadly as she tilted her head.
"That's what I thought. Goodbye, Jordan."
Jordan didn't bother watching as Dahlia left his room. He couldn't watch her walk away. As he heard his door shut, he turned to look at it before shutting his eyes, feeling a fresh set of tears spill out.
"Bye, Doll."
