A few months had passed by and as the summer came to a close, Jordan and Dahlia decided to gather their parents so they could break the news about the baby to all three of them at once.As the parents all sat around the dining table, Jordan's mother continued eyeing Dahlia as she cleared the appetizers from the table.
"Lia, what's up, honey? I mean-- know you're a better cook than this."
Jordan, who was re-entering the dining room with a plate of baby back ribs, set the dish on the table and picked up one of the uneaten BabyBel mini cheese wheels.
He unwrapped it and popped it in his mouth, as his hands gently found their way onto Dahlia's waist.
"Come on, Mom. You know my girl can throw down in the kitchen. Something's been up with the oven."
Dahlia giggled a bit to herself as Jordan kissed the side of her head and gripped her hip a bit tighter.
"I'll take a look at it, if you want me to, Son."
Jordan looked over to his father and shrugged, telling him he was taking care of it.
Dahlia excused herself from the dining room, returning a few minutes later, with two plates, one for Jordan's mom, the other for her father.
Charlotte eyed the cornish game hen and baby spinach and baby potatoes suspiciously, but let her thoughts fester until finally at dessert, Jordan presented everyone with their own box of Sugar Babies.
"Okay, Jordan. What the hell is going on? Baby carrots, baby chickens, sugar b-- wait."
Charlotte's focus was then directed towards a wide-eyed Dahlia, whose bottom lip was caught between her teeth.
"Lia, you're not... you're pregnant?"
A hopeful smile began making its way to Dahlia's face as she nodded at Charlotte but was soon wiped away as Dahlia took in Charlotte's reaction.
Her shoulders slumped forward as she sighed, dropped and her head, and shook it.
"How could you two be so stupid?"
The only thing heard in the room was a small whimper as Dahlia looked over to Randy, then to her father, then back to Jordan.
She shook her head as the back of her eyes began to burn and scooted away from the table, running out of the kitchen, down the hall, to her room.
All three sets of eyes were on Charlotte a moment later, and all she could do was watch as her son stood from the table, grabbed a small gift bag from a shelf in the dining room, and set it in front of her.
"Ya know-- Doll wasn't even scared to tell you. She actually thought you were gonna be excited. Guess we were all disappointed, huh, Mom?"
Jordan then left the three soon-to-be-grandparents alone to check on Dahlia... his entire world.
