The brisk late-January wind whipped past Dahlia as she thanked the airport-shuttle driver for helping her with her bags. As the driver got back in his van, Dahlia turned to look at the dorm hall and sighed, ready to start her second semester just so she could get it over with.
Dahlia was an absolute wreck after Jordan told her what happened over their Thanksgiving break. It's like everything she thought and believed had been ripped from her memories and replaced with Jordan's heart-shattering confession.
At first, she was tempted to go to his room and see him, but the pain she felt every time she thought about him kept her from going anywhere near his room.
"Ahhh! I'm so happy you're back! I missed you!"
Dahlia smiled softly as she entered her dorm room, and was immediately wrapped in a bear hug by Kat.
"How was your break?"
After setting her suitcase aside and plopping herself on her bed, Dahlia laid back as she covered her face with her arms and groaned.
"Awful."
"Did you and Jordan talk?"
Dahlia uncovered her face, looked over at Kat, and shook her head.
Following Jordan's confession, Dahlia called her dad and asked him to change her flight, while letting him know she'd be with him and her grandparents in Canada for Christmas.
She didn't want to go into detail about what happened and why she wasn't going to Colorado with Jordan, so she told her dad that they were just taking some time apart.
She spent the entire break locked in her room at her grandparents' place, under a pile of blankets, wallowing in her own heartache.
The tears finally stopped a few days ago, and now all Dahlia was left feeling was numbness.

It was weird for Jordan to walk to class without Dahlia that first day back. Since football season was over, Jordan's training schedule was a little looser, so he and Dahlia made sure to get every class together.
He didn't see her in the Dining Hall that morning for breakfast, and with each step towards the campus, Jordan's nerves became more and more frazzled.
His winter break had been complete shit... and he was the only person to blame.
Why had he been such an idiot?
How could he actually kiss someone else?
He was finally able to get out of his own head, only when he walked into the lecture hall and saw Dahlia, sitting near the front, alone.
Her usually bright brown eyes looked dull, she was in an old sweatshirt and faded ratty jeans, and it looked like she hadn't bothered to touch her hair that day.
She was a wreck and Jordan knew it was his fault.
His heart began beating out of his chest and he raced over, seeing Dahlia being approached by the one person Jordan never wanted to see again.
