The only place that Jordan felt at home besides next do Dahlia was the football field.Of the thousands of hours he spent on the field, in the gym, and studying plays, Jordan couldn't remember a day that he didn't love absolutely everything about football.
He was standing on the sidelines, next to the offensive coach, going back and forth between looking at the play and watching the field. Mark Hanson, the team's starting quarterback had just thrown a pass when he was suddenly tackled to the ground.
"Are you fucking kidding me?!"
"What the fuck was that, Kincaid?!"
Jordan watched along with the rest of the sidelined team as the offensive and defensive coaches both stormed the field, ready to rip freshman right-tackle, Dante Kincaid, apart.
"I... I--"
"You don't tackle my quarterback in practice! What the fuck is wrong with you?!"
The offensive-coordinator coach yanked a frightened Dane up by the grill of his helmet, chucking him to the side as a few players on the field helped Mark up.
The shaken-up quarterback gave everyone a nod, ensuring he was okay before the head/offensive coach began a rant as to why you must always protect your quarterback.
✨
After practice and a quick shower at the training facility, Jordan left his gear in his locker room and was ready to head over to Dahlia's.
After checking his phone for the time, he smiled, knowing she should be getting home from Target right about now. She and Kat were throwing a little game night, and Dahlia and Kat went to grab some snacks.
Just as he slipped his key into the front door of their apartment building, a voice called out behind him, scaring him nearly to death.
"Jordan?"
As the figure stepped out from the shadow of the building's awning, Jordan rolled his eyes and began shaking his head.
✨
After texting Dahlia and asking if they could push back 'game night' a little, Jordan found himself once again sitting across from his birth father.
"How do you take it?"
Jordan looked down to where Tommy began pouring them each a cup of coffee from the pot provided on the table in the diner.
