Joey, the girl Dahlia saw Jordan with that one time in class— his teammate, Cynthia's girlfriend— lived just down the street from Jordan and Dahlia's new place.
Ever since Dahlia talked with Joey about the mixup, the two girls had been very close.
So much so, that Dahlia had invited Joey over to check out their new place and help her figure out a birthday present for Jordan, who was turning nineteen the very next week.
"I didn't get him anything last year, because... you know-- so I really wanna go all out. Every year, I give him his present, then the next week, for mine, he does something that absolutely tops my gift. I'm gonna win this year."
Joey let out a wide laugh as she cocked her head back in delight.
"Ha!! Give him a baby. Best gift ever."
Dahlia's eyes narrowed in Joey's direction before she rolled them, shaking her head as she brushed off the suggestion.
Joey sucked in a breath as her eyes shot open.
"Anywhoooooo...what were you thinking about getting him?"

As Jordan finished buttoning his dark grey, long-sleeved shirt, he sighed in defeat, shaking his head and rolling his eyes as he looked over at Dahlia.
"Am I an idiot? I mean-- I gave this dude a chance before and he's done nothing but prove to me that he's not worth it. What am I doing, Doll?"
Dahlia gave Jordan a half-smile as she walked over to him, slightly tugging on his collar as she pulled him down for a kiss.
"Jordy, you're not an idiot-- not at all. You're a good person. You're actually the best person I know and... you just wanna see the good in him, and that's okay."
As Dahlia gently massaged Jordan's earlobes, she could feel him calming down under her touch.
A few minutes later, the two were settling into Dahlia's Jeep, on their way to a restaurant in Manhattan Beach.
With the fog and the murky rain hovering over them, Jordan felt like this lunch was going to be anything but glorious.
