...
Marcus and Kat both began boo-ing Dahlia as she scooted off of Jordan's lap. The four were at Jordan and Dahlia's having a movie night, and once again, the movie was paused on account of Dahlia.
"Again? Babe, that's like the third time you've had to go pee and we're not even halfway through the movie. Are you sure you're okay?"
Dahlia rolled her eyes as she stood from the couch, shoving away from Jordan, whose eyes widened in shock at what came out of her mouth.
"I'm fine, Jordan! Fucking Christ..."
All three sets of eyes were on Dahlia, watching as she mumbled to herself, making her way to the bathroom.
Marcus turned to Jordan with his eyebrows raised in disbelief.
"Dude."
Jordan clasped his hands together over his face as he shook his head, groaning to himself.
"PMS can be a real bitch, huh?"
Kat's arm whipped back in record time, smacking her husband on the chest as he chuckled, stopping when both he and his wife noticed the distraught look on Jordan's face once he dropped his hands.
"No, dude... it's never been like this. I don't know what's going on with her."
Kat sat back for a few seconds in deep thought before Dahlia returned, silently curling back up on the couch, as she grabbed the remote from the table.
Kat eyed her best friend for a while, her mind wandering a thousand miles a minute.
✨
The boys had a scrimmage game after the movie, and as they were leaving Marcus asked if Kat would stop by and watch them play.
"I guess I can etch out some time for my hubbie."
Kat joked playfully as Marcus pulled her in for a kiss. When she pulled away, she rested her hand on Marcus's chest, smiling up at him.
"But me and Lia gotta go on a store run real quick."
"Oh yeah... for what?"
Marcus gripped Kat's sides in an attempt to tickle her, but she took a quick step back, smirking as she shook her head.
"Just girl stuff, babe."
✨
"No way!!!"
Dahlia began bouncing in excitement as Kat compared the two boxes she was holding in her hands.
"Kat, you're pregnant?!"
Kat cocked her head and looked over at Dahlia like she belonged in an institution.
"What?! Ha! No, Lia... you're pregnant."
"No way, I'm on the pill, remember? Every evening at 5 o'clock."
"Yeah... but isn't it like... not always one hundred percent effective? And-- okay I absolutely love you-- but, babes, ya kinda been a bitch lately."
Dahlia thought back to when she first got on birth control, and how her doctor explained that the rate of efficiency would be lowered if, for instance, she was taking any...
"Antibiotics."
Kat looked over at Dahlia, whose face had dropped, sucked of all emotion except one.
Fear.
"Lia...?"
Dahlia thought back to all the makeup sessions she and Jordan had after she got over her cold, stumbling back as she realized the antibiotics were still in her system.
She shook her head as she thought about the unopened box of tampons she had at home.
"No..."
Kat wrapped an arm around Dahlia, pulling her in as their heads gently knocked together.
"Look, why don't I buy both tests? They each come with three so you can take them with me, ya know-- for support...?"
Dahlia eyed Kat, whose brown eyes softened and her forehead creased when she poked out her bottom lip.
"Pweease Weee-uhhh. Foe mee?"
Dahlia glared at Kat before rolling her eyes.
"Baby talk? Really Kat-- right now?"
