...
Dahlia scoffed and rolled her eyes at Jordan in disbelief.
"Says who? Jordan, opportunities like this just don't happen and this one literally never will again."
"What am I supposed to do, Doll?"
Dahlia leaned in on the bench they were both straddling and left a sweet kiss on Jordan's lips. When she pulled back she smiled, noticing how Jordan's cocoa-brown eyes were still closed.
"You're gonna go out there and kick ass on that field."
"But Adam Br-"
"Adam Brown's a sad, sucky Senior still on the JV team. He's just jealous that your Coach is asking you to start."
"Exactly! I mean, it's his Senior Year. Isn't this supposed to be like his moment? I just... I guess it just feels like I'm taking this away from him."
Dahlia smiled sympathetically, knowing how caring Jordan could be.
He'd had a caring nature since they were kids and even now, when it would benefit him, all Jordan could think about was how it would affect someone else.
"Jordy, he's a Senior and you're a Sophomore. There's a reason why he's still on JV after four years, okay? This isn't his moment, it's yours."
Jordan sighed before covering his face with his hands and shaking his head.
"How do you always do that?"
His voice was muffled behind his hands and Dahlia scrunched her eyebrows together in confusion.
"Do what?"
Jordan's hands moved from his face to cover Dahlia's hands on her lap. As he looked down at his hands on hers, he smiled, then looked up into her twinkling chocolate eyes, completely floored and in awe of her beauty, both inside and out.
"Manage to know exactly what I need to hear... like, all the time."
"Because I know you better than anybody Prescott. Thought you'd get that by now."
Dahlia teased before sliding away on the bench, just before the bell after lunch rang. Jordan watched for a moment, still in disbelief that this fascinating creature was his girl.
✨
"And with just twelve seconds left in the game, it looks like the Mustangs are gonna take this one 38-7 with an absolutely outstanding performance from Sophomore Jordan Prescott, who threw five for six and a record two hundred and sixty-four yards."
The announcer continued with the game stats, before announcing that the Varsity game would be starting in about an hour.
As Dahlia glanced down at the crowd that had begun to fill the bleachers after halftime, she grinned wildly when they all began to chant.
"Prescott! Prescott! Prescott! Prescott!"
She watched as the final play began, and as the visiting team conceded, she decided to make her way down the bleachers, clinging onto the wire fence as the final whistle blew.
The team all crowded around Jordan and lifted him on their shoulders and Dahlia watched as he searched for her in the crowd.
When he finally saw her standing at the gate, a bright smile broke out on Jordan's face. He leaned down and said something to his teammates and a moment later, they set him back down.
He jogged over to the gate, dropping his helmet and any thought that didn't have to do with getting him to his girl.
"Hey, Superstar. You kicked ass out there."
Jordan smiled before leaning into the fence, kissing Dahlia between the wires. As his fingers linked around hers, she stood on her tiptoes, returning the kiss as she tried to drown out the crowd.
"Yeah, well... I had a pretty good pep talk the other day. I had to make my girl proud."
✨
"Daaaaaad! Haven't you taken enough already? We've gotta go."
"Yeah, come on, Mom. We were supposed to leave like, yesterday."
Jordan and Dahlia both whined when their parents ignored their complaints and continued taking photos. The two were standing in front of the fountain in their apartment complex, waiting for Jordan's mom to take them to the Homecoming dance.

"Oh, Jordy, quit. After eleven-and-a-half hours of pushing that melon of a head out, I get to take a few pictures."
"Moooooom!"
After a few more pictures, Dahlia said goodbye to her father and she and Jordan were soon on their way to the dance, riding in his Mom's backseat.
As she continued with stories about them when they were little, Dahlia laughed, watching Jordan tilt his head back with his eyes closed as he groaned.
"So embarrassing."
She heard him mumble under his breath and reached over to grab his hand. When he turned to look at her, the soft smile on her face instantly pacified his frustrations.
The song on the radio changed to Ariana Grande's 'Positions' and an excited Mrs. Prescott turned the volume up and began bouncing in her seat.
"Oooh, this is my jam!"
"Mom!"
It was at this moment that Jordan began mentally counting down the days until he got his license.
